CFD ANALYSIS OF LPG FLOW THROUGH CAROUSEL FILLING GUN PIPE
AIM: Analize the flow of LPG inside a Carousel Filling pipe for two different velocity contours before & after bends.
OBJECTIVES:
1) Create the model using solidworks. with following dimensions:
2) Obtain 2 different velocity contours before & after bends in pipe.
3) Analyze the Results for the flow.
FILLING CAROUSEL MACHINE:
> A filling carousel is intended for filling large quantities of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders. It consists of a frame with running wheels, rails, a central column for LPG and air, and a driving unit the carousel frame around the central column. The speed of the carousel can be adapted to the various filling times and capacities. The dimension of the carousel is important to consider for the future filling capacity. The carousel frame chosen can be equipped with a number of filling scales, selected for the present demand and possible future demands. Filling carousels can be provided with equipment for automatic introduction and automatic filling scales with ejection of cylinders.
ADDING LPG INTO SOLIDWORKS FLOW SIMULATION WIZARD AS NEW GAS:
> For this analysis I have added a new gas into the solidworks flow simulation as LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas). The Parameters used for this are as following:
| LPG Parameters | |||
| Properties | Propane (60 %) | Butane (40 %) | LPG |
| Specigfic Heat Ratio | 1.13 | 1.13 | 1.13 |
| Dynamic Viscocity (Pa*s) | 0.00000839 | 0.00000749 | 0.00000803 |
| Specific Heat (J/kg*K) | 1680 | 1730 | 1700 |
| Molecular Mass (kg/mole) | 0.044097 | 0.05812 | 0.0497 |
| Thermal Conductivity (W/m*K) | 0.0183 | 0.016565 | 0.017 |
INPUT PARAMETERS FOR FLOW SIMULATION:
1) Inlet velocity = 4.7 m/s (Original values taken from LPG plant)
2) Outlet Total Pressure = 1520031 Pa
3) Flow medium = LPG
4) Cylinder Volume = 0.025 m^3
5) Average Time needed to fill a cylinder = 40 sec
6) From the values of olume & time the velocity is calculated using discharge formulas.
RESULTS:
1) Velocity Before Bends:
2) Velocity After Bends:
3) Flow Trajectories:
CONCLUSION:
> From the above analysis it can be seen clearly that the velocity from starting to the end is remains constant thoughout the pipe while passing through pipe bends.
> The flow trajectory also shows that there is a slight changes at bending's in the pipe.
> The higher pressure at the exit of the pipe helps LPG fow to develop the constant contour.
