ARMOURED VEHICLE LAUNCHED BRIDGE(AVLB)
Objective:
- To make the working model of Armoured Vehicle-Launched Bridge (AVLB) or Bridge layer Tank using Solidworks.
- To assemble the different parts modeled for the tank.
- To create the photo realistic model of tank and render the model using Photoview 360 or Solidworks Visualize.
Part Modeling:
Part Modeling you can create a part from a conceptual sketch through solid feature-based modeling, as well as build and modify parts through direct and intuitive graphical manipulation.
Parts to be modeled for the Tank:
- The Hull
- Hatch
- chain link
- Drive Sproket
- Upper Front Wheel
- Road Wheel
- Hydraulics
- Bridge span
- Launch Mechanism ( Part 1,2,3)
1. The Hull:
Hull is the main body of the tank which supports and connects all the parts of the vehicle.
Features used to create Hull.
- Sketch
- Extrude
- Cut extrude
- Fillet
- Chamfer
- Dome
- Linear Pattern
- Polygons
- Circular Pattern
- Mirror
2. Hatch
It is the Cover of the compartment in which pilots sit and drive the vehicle.
Features used to Create Hatch
- Sketch
- Extrude
- Cut extrude
- Sweep
- Fillet
3. Chain Link:
It is the primary component to create the caterpillar tracks.
Features used to create chain link
- Sketch
- Extrude
- Fillet
- Chamfer
- Cut Extrude
- Mirror
4. Drive Sproket:
It connects with the drive shaft to drive the caterpillar tracks.

5. Upper Front Wheel:
It supports the caterpillar track.
Features used to create the upper front wheel.
- Sketch

6. Road Wheel:
It supports all the weight of the vehicle and maintain the contacts with the tracks.
Features used to create the road wheel

7. Hydraulics:
These are used to operate the launch mechanism of bridge

8. Bridge Span:
The Bridge is used to create a path over the rivers , canals, trenches etc.
Fetures to create the Bridge
- Sketch
- Extrude
- Extrude Cut
- Fillet
- Chamfer
- Linear Pattern
- Curve Driven Pattern
- Mirror
9. Launch Mechanism:
It expands and retracts the bridge according to use. It attaches with the hull and support the bridge. It has three parts.
Fetures used to create Launch Mechanism
- Sketch
- Extrude
- Cut Extrude
- Fillet
- Chamfer
Assembly of Bridge Layer Tank:
• Initially, the Chassis part is inserted in the assembly by using insert parts in the option. After that the part is inserted in the assembly environment and clicked ok to fix the chassis.
• After that the other parts of the chopper are inserted into the assembly and given possible mate conditions.
Rendering:
• Rendering is the process of creating realistic images of the Photorealistic model with the environment.
• Rendering has been done in two ways in solidworks. The following are the two ways, Photoview 360 or Solidworks Visualize
• In the photorealistic model some of the mate conditions and positions are changed to render realistic models.
• Then the photorealistic model is rendered into realistic images with different views.
Conclusion :
• The parts of the Tank are modelled.
• The parts are inserted into the assembly environment and the Tank is assembled.
• The realistic image was rendered with the use of the Solidworks visualize.
