In-dependant Project
Design and Modelling of Skid Steer Loader
Objective
- The objective of this project is used to create a different part of the Skid Steer Loader using Solidworks.
- To assemble the different parts modeled for the Skid Steer Loader.
- To create a photorealistic rendering of the Skid Steer Loader using Photo view 360.
Skid Steer Loader
- In this project I designed the Skid Steer Loader of Bobcat S130, it was manufactured in 2003.
- The Bobcat S130 Skid-Steer Loader is a 46.0 HP machine that can weigh in at over 2.53 tons and is powered by a 4-cylinder Kubota Diesel engine. It has a 54-inch bucket capacity.
- Skid loaders are compact, powerful, and versatile machines can be 4-wheel or track driven.
- They fit into small spaces and can turn within a tight angle 180°at full speed.
- Skid loaders function to push, scrape, scoop, lift, and dump materials.
- It can be used as a remote power source for various attachments, Easy to operate.
Parts to be modeled for Bobcat
The following parts of the Bobcat are modeled in Solidworks and assembled together.
- Main Body
- Cabinet
- Lifting Arm
- Hydraulic Cylinder
- Bucket
- Differential
- Tire Assembly
- Exhaust Assembly
1) Main Body
- It was created by using Extruded Boss and Extruded Cut Features.
- The main body is the base part for sub-assembly which is connected to it.
- Control levers, pedals, and a parking brake are arranged compactly within the operator’s space.
2) Cabinet
- It was also created by using Extruded Boss, Extruded Cut, and linear pattern Features.
- It protects the operator when working in hazardous places.
3) Lifting Arm
- Extruded Boss and Extruded Cut Feature used to create the part.
- Lifting arms raise and lower the loader bucket at front of the operator’s cab.
- Lifting arm movement was controlled by powerful hydraulic cylinders.
4) Hydraulic Cylinder
- Revolve and Extrude base features are used to create this part.
- A skid loader is a very powerful hydraulic machine.
- A hydrostatic transmission controls forward and reverses direction.
- Hydrostatic valves control the flow of hydraulic oil to steer the machine by “skidding” it sharply around a corner.
5) Bucket
- Skid Loader Bucket is usually made of an AISI 4130 or 4140
- The AISI 4000 series of steels are chromium-molybdenum steels.
- Chromium improves corrosion resistance and its ability to be hardened while molybdenum increases strength and hardenability.
6) Differential
- It was created by using the shell, Extrude Boss, and Revolve features.
- A differential is a gear train with three shafts that has the property that the rotational speed of one shaft is the average of the speeds of the others.
7) Wheel Assembly
- It was Created by using Revolve, Extrude Boss, and Circular Pattern.
- The skid loader’s center of gravity is low and between the wheels.
- The wheel assembly consists of Rim, Axel, and Tier.
- It was connected with differential using Shafts.
8) Exhaust Assembly
- It was Created by using Extrude Boss, Extrude cut, and Linear Pattern.
- It provides ventilation for heat produced by the engine and makes the operator comfortable.
Assembly of Wheel, Axle, and Differential
- It is a working model, power from the motor transfer to the front and rear differential through the shaft.
- In this assemble I used gear mate to link the gears to rotate in the respective axis.
Photorealistic rendering of Bobcat
- It is a process of creating a 3D model into a realistic image.
- The rendered image incorporates the appearances, lighting, scene, and decals included with the model.
- Using Photo view 360 renderings of the Bobcat is done with different views.
CONCLUSION
- By applying solid and surface modeling methodologies, the design and assembly of Skid-Steer Loader(Bobcat) were completed using Solidworks.
- The model was given a photorealistic render using Solidworks Visualize.
- This model can be further improvised by adding other parts such as the hydraulic components, Mechanical components.
- The idea behind the project was to demonstrate the basic working principle of a Strut Type Suspension by applying the Solidworks skills that I learned through this course.
