Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Report

Fender - fender is a part of vehicle which is purposely designed over wheel. The primary purpose for designing fender to prevent mud, water, debris etc. being thrown away by rotating wheel.

Fender wheel Arch Regulations - fender is design by considering the different factors like terrain, weather and other aspects. There are mainly three different regulations is in practise while designing fender viz. Japan, U.S. and European standards where U.S. has the maximum clearance in all above mentioned regulations. If designer is considering U.S. regulations then that vehicle is acceptable in all region while Japan has the lowest regulation in all. In Japan maximum clearance is of 5mm while in U.S. it is of 10mm so considering these two limits one can design fender between these two values.

SECTIONS REQUIRED VALUE ACTUAL VALUE STATUS
SB 10 10 GO
SA 10 10 GO
SC 10 -10 NO-GO
SD 10 -10 NO-GO
SE 10 -10 NO-GO

In the above table can identify the sections where we have to rework on the surface, in status column where sections is written as "GO" that points/sections comes under U.S. Fender Wheel Arch Regulations and whereas other sections need to be reworks.

In fig.1 & 2 plane was created with reference to the surface of tyre and create a point at centre of plane. Created a sketch on newly created plane and project the edge of fender, and also created line which intersects the projected arch of fender. Lines and arch where intersects points are created. These points are known as sections. Names of sections according to U.S. Wheel Arch Regulations are SB, SA, SC, SD and SE. (from left to right) respectively.

In fig.4 points are in sion in color are the projected points and points are in purple color they are sections created using sketch. Points (Sion color) are at right side i.e SB and SA are acceptable but points which are on left they are failing according to regulations.
