Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Fender:
Fender is the metal sheet that encloses the wheel of the car and it covers also the side of the engine room. The fender covers the tyre from muds and small stones hitting in the car body and also to the pedestrain. so as to maintain this each country maintain some regulations according to their road conditions.
Different Regulations used for fender;
There are different fender regulstions followed by each countries depending on the Road conditions. some of them are given below
- Japan Regulations
- US Regulations
- European Regulations
Japan Regulations

in the Japanese regulations the wheel center, outer part of tyre is taken to measure the fender outer part within the Region(K area). which is forward 30 deg and backward 50 deg from the vertical central line.
while seeing the marked three points on the fender from the top view it shouls be measured 5mm.
US Regulations ;
In the US regulations the wheel center is taken to mrasure the outer part of the tyre to the fender outer part for each 10 degree in the circular direction. while seeing this from the top view this shoild measure 5mm.

European Regulations :
Cinsidering the European Regulations wheel center, outer part of tyre is taken to measure the fender outer part within the Region(K area). which is forward 30 deg, 90 deg to horrizondal central axis and backward 50 deg from the vertical central line. and aslo two line below the 50 deg line drawn in such a way that the last line should be 150mm above the horrizondal central axis.
while seeing the marked three points on the fender from the top view it shouls be measured 10mm.

as the European std is the best std which covers all the other countries std , so if we maintain this std it will be easy to consider many countries market.
the Measured distance for the challenge is being shown in this table.
| Points | European Std | Measured | Remarks | Solution |
| SA | 10mm | 9.97 | Can Consider | |
| SB | 10mm | 10 | Allowable | |
| SC | 10mm | .11 | Not Acceptable | adding Mud Pad |
| SD | 10mm | 2.88 | Not Acceptable | adding Mud Pad |
| SE | 10mm | 5.99 | Not Acceptable | adding Mud Pad |
these are the values measure from the tyre edge plane to the fender outer part and the measured values screen shots are being attached in the attachments
