Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

AIM : To calculate wheel arc radius for the given model and check whether it passes the European standard oo not.

ABOUT WHEEL ARC : Wheel Arch is an arch shaped cavity in the fender bod, which houses a wheel. The main intention for the calculation of wheel arc radius is to position the wheel inside the fender body , because during motion the car tyres will tend to throw particles present on the road like sand, mudrocks, liquids etc

It is a semicircular profile above wheels designed for enclosing tire within the fender. The wheel arch is designed considering all possible motions the tire undergoes while the vehicle is in motion. The wheel arch also ensures stopping any debris that could possibly fly outside the wheel well and hit pedestrians.

EUROPEAN STANDARD FOR WHEEL ARCH

RULES FOR EUROPEAN STANDARD

By the given part file I prepared the wheel arch calulation according to European rules

ABOUT LINE SA

The gap between line SA and wheel arch is 9.9490 mm

ABOUT LINE SB

The gap between line SB and whell arch is 10.00 mm

ABOUT LINE SC

The gap between line SC and wheel arch is 0.0100 mm

ABOUT LINE SD

The gap between line SD and wheel arch is -2.8875 mm

ABOUT LINE SE

The gap between line SE and wheel arch is -5.99973 mm

TABULATION

SECTION REQUIRED DISTANCE CALCULATED DISTANCE RESULT
SA 10 mm 9.9490 mm PASS
SB 10 mm 10.00 mm PASS
SC 10 mm 0.0100 mm FAIL
SD 10 mm 2.8875 mm FAIL
SE 10 mm 5.9979 mm FAIL

CONCLUSION

Acooding to European requirement the wheel arch is not good for manufacturing ,so styling team oo design team should work on section SC,SD and SE.
