AUTOMOBILE FENDER DESIGN
Fender
A fender is a vehicle body that frames a wheel well from above. Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other roads spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.

Now, I am going to design a fender with a given Master section And Fender skin data.

For designing a fender in Nx 12 software, the following Surface modeling tools were used,
Law extension, Face blend, Emboss, trim sheet, Dart or bead, etc.
So, by briefing the master section I understood that there should be some mountings all around the fender. And by some fender data, those mountings are,
- Drip mounting.
- Bumper mounting.
- Sill mounting
- A – pillar mounting.
And some other Safety mountings like Baffle mounting and Splash mounting.
Design of Fender and Various Fender mountings.
- Drip Mounting

This Drip mounting is an important mounting because the Engine and the Fender are fixed together, and this area is one of the mountings for fixing the engine inside the vehicle.
So, for designing this mount, there should be some considerations taken while designing.
Some considerations such as the position of a drip mount should be between 150 mm from the bumper and 200 mm from the A-pillar of the vehicle.
And while the vehicle is at motion the components around the engine should not vibrate because of the power of the engine. So, for that an emboss or gusset operation is performed to eliminate the vibration and stiffening the flange.
- Bumper Mounting

In this part of the mounting was the Bumper of the car and the fender is fixed together. A bumper is the vehicle body part where the headlight, fog light, nameplate, air intake for the cooling of the engine is present.
Here 2 emboss or punch is performed and a hole of Diameter 5mm for fixing of the fastener.
- Sill mounting

In this mounting the fender is fixed to the lower part of the vehicle, basically, those parts will be covered under the spoiler or the skirts. This mounting is also fixed to the chassis of the vehicle body.
Here also 2 punches or emboss are made with a 5mm hole for fixing the fasteners.
- A – pillar mounting

This is the A-pillar mounting where the Fender and A - pillar of the car body is fixed together. As we can see there are 3 pillars of the car A, B, and C pillar. They are part of the chassis in the vehicle. In this mounting an emboss or a punch is made for the fixing of the two components. And for each fixture hole is made of diameter 5 mm.
- Splash Mounting

This mounting is basically designed for the safety of pedestrians because when the vehicle is on motion the roadside debris or drainage water is splashed towards the by road pedestrians or the following vehicle behind so a special plastic component is fixed to that mounting to prevent any disaster.
- Baffle mounting

This mounting is also made for safety, but in this case, it is for the passengers inside the vehicle. A rubber type material is used to fit that mounting. These materials are used to reduce the noise produced by the engine when the vehicle is at motion and also by tires.
- Additional designs in a fender

- this cut out was made because of further fittings, such as for cooling of the engine, some aerodynamic plastic components, or indicators. etc.
