Design of backdoor

Objective:

To design backdoor with given model and provide reinforcements in the required areas.

Backdoor:

The backdoor also known as tailboard is fitted to the rear end of the roof. The backdoor consists of 2 panels like inner and outer panel. The inner is the rigid most part as it comes in contact with other parts where the outer is generally less rigid mainly for the aesthetic purpose.

Components:

  • Inner Panel

  • Outer Panel Lower

  • Outer Panel Upper

  • Gas stay reinforcements

  • Hinge Reinforcements

  • Wiper Motor Reinforcement

  • Latch & Striker Reinforcement.

Inner Panel:

The inner panel is provided with rigid structure such that it needs to withstand the forces exerted onto it. It is provided with embosses to add extra strength and it is designed in such a way to distribute the forces equally to all regions. It is also to hold embosses for latch and hinge mountings as well. There is another extra flange that is provided to add the mastic sealants in the inner panel.

Outer Panel:

The outer panel which is designed in such a way to provide an aesthetic look from the outside of the car and also it holds the rear window. It is divided into upper and lower regions. Both consist of hemming region which is created using “Swept” command providing a smooth transition. Hemming is provided relief in the corner so as to avoid breakage.

Hinge Reinforcement:

The hinge which connects the backdoor with the roof end is provided with this type of reinforcement.

Gas-Stay Reinforcement:

The Gas stay which is used for opening and closing of the backdoor is provided with this type of reinforcement.

Wiper-Motor Reinforcement:

The wiper motor which is used to facilitate the movement of the rear wiper over the glass is provided with this type of reinforcement.

Latch & Striker Reinforcement:

The Latch where the backdoor goes and locks itself with the rear bumper is provided with this type of reinforcement.

Result:

Thus the backdoor design is made following the given specifications using the given software.
