Design of backdoor

BACK DOOR

INTRODUCTION:

Siemens NX is a multi-purpose advanced software used in Computer Aided Designing, Computer Aided Manufacturing, and Computer Aided Engineering. It is also used in rendering, assembling, sectioning, sketching, analyzing, etc. It is also used for designing sheet metal, models, assembling the parts, shaping studio and routing for multi purposes in parts. In NX CAD, manufacturing, inspecting, drawing, layouting can also be executed with this software.

BODY IN WHITE (BIW)

Body in white (BIW), is the initial stage in automobile manufacturing cycle. It is the assemble of parts before painting or other integrated attachments to the frame of body. It gives rigid structure and shape of the car. Many parts are manufactured individually even before the assembly of motor, sub assembly parts or any extra attachments (like glass, door locks, seating).

BACK DOOR

Back door, in automobile, also called as Tailgate design. It is probably the rear most part of the car. Therefore, it should undertake many test like crash test, and should be designed as per the criteria. The backdoor consists of many parts including inner and outer panel, with some required reinforcements. While considering the weigh load and strength, reinforcements are added to improve them. The thickness of inner and outer panel of back door is maintained as 0.75mm in this design. The thickness is usually between 0.6mm – 1.0mm for panel. The thickness of reinforcement in backdoor should be between 0.7mm – 1.6mm. In this design, it is kept as 1.5mm. Here, trajectory condition should also meet, so when the latch is closed, the hook gets locked without any misalignment.

DESIGN:

The outer panel is given in the section without any hemming and flange. Inner panel is created to the required specifications and requirements without changing the outer panel. The addition of reinforcements is accordingly to the personnel favor and idea with some basic mandatory parts.

PARTS OF BACK DOOR

The back door parts in this design are Inner panel, Outer panel, Hinge reinforcement, Latch reinforcement, Gas stay reinforcement and Wiper motor reinforcement.

INNER PANEL

The inner panel is designed with the requirement of outer panel design. While designing the inner panel, the space of rear section of car should be considered.

OUTER PANEL

Outer panel should be designed with the requirement of tail light, rear glass and also the crash test requirement. The outer panel should be designed in an attractive way because it gives the rear external shape of car.

HINGE REINFORCEMENT

Hinge reinforcement is made to hold the hinge and inner panel without damaging the both parts. The reinforcement thickness should more than panel's thickness. So, it can with hold the pressure for longer duration and to give longer durability.

LATCH REINFORCEMENT

Latch reinforcement is to guide the latch with inner panel. The latch reinforcement shold be made in a way, that it could withstand the shutting force with its minimal damage.

GAS STAY REINFORCEMENT

Gas stay reinforcement is to fix the gas stay and inner panel without any distortion to both parts. It also gives more holding pressure between the parts. It gives less load and more strength to the inner panel in this case. It plays a vital role in holding strength to the inner panel.

WIPER MOTOR REINFORCEMENT

Wiper motor reinforcement provides a rigid and firm hold between the parts. So the wiper could perform with its full ablity. It also provides firm hold between the parts.

CONCLUSION:

All the parts of back door and its reinforcement are designed and assembled to the requirement of design.
