CAR BACK DOOR DESIGN

What is back door?

A door which is located at the rear side of a car which gives access for the boot space to store lugge spare wheel etc.

These doors can be operated manually or elatric powered. in most of the luxury car door is electrically operated.

Types of door based on working position:

  1. Top mounted Door
  2. Side mounted Door
  3. Bottom Door

Back Door Assembly:

  • Inner panel
  • Outer panel
  • lower panel
  • Hinge and its reinforcement
  • wiper moter reinforcement
  • Latch & Striker and its reinforcement

Deep drawing :

The metal deep drawing process is an effetive method of manufacturing of cups, cans and other similar deep drawing products.

Stamping method :

Stampipng also called for pressing _involves placing flat sheet metal, in either coil or blank from, into a stamping press. In the press , a tool and die surface form the metal into the desired shape. punching, blancking, bending, coining, embossing, and flanging are all stamping techniques used to shape the metal

Embossing :

Embossng is a metal forming process for producing raised or sunken designs or relief in sheet materials by means of matched male and female roller dies, theoretically with no change in metal thickness or by passing sheet or a strip of metal between rolls of the desired pattern .Depending on the roller dies used , different patterns can be produced on the metal sheet.

  • Aluminum alloys
  • steel alloys
  • Zinc
  • Copper
  • Galvanized steel
  • Brass
  • Clod rolled steel

Hemming:

Hemming is a forming operation in which the edges of the sheet are floder over another part in order to achive a tight fit. normally hemming operation are used to connect parts together, to improve the appearance of a part and to reinfoce part edge edges.

1.Conventional die Hemming:

In Conventional die hemming, the flange is floded over the entire length with a hemming tool.

2.Roll hemming :

In roll hemming, the hemming roller is guide by an industrial robot to from the flange.

3.Open hemming :

A hemming has a ful round feature and a return flange .In open hemminfg bend angle is equal to 180 degrees.

Tear drop hemming:

In tear drop hemming the bend angle is greater then 180 degree

Closed hemming:

Hemming without any inside radius are called as closed hem.

Blanking:

Blanking is a cutting operation of a flat metal sheet and the article punched out is known as blank.Blank is the required product of the operation and the metal left behind is considered as a waste.

Punching:

It is similar to blanking only the main difference is thet, the hole is the required product and the matrial punched out from the hole is considered out from the hole is cinsidered as a waste.

Back door design consideration:

  • Visible critia.
  • Rear crash regulation.
  • Boot space & Accessibility.
  • Sealing Flange.
  • support structures like hinges and gas stays.
  • Mounts for wiper moter, tail lamps and other wiring loops.
  • joining techniques such as hemming, spot welding.
  • Gap and flush requirement.
