Comparison of Drag force in different orientation of bicyclist .
I have taken four types of geometry of some bicycles .
1. The Upright position which is frequently used , in which frontal area of 0.5 m2 and a drag coefficient of 1.1 .
2. By crouching the frontal area of the bike-rider system is reduced to 0.36 m2 and the drag coefficient also decreases to 0.88 (Racing) .
3.When two cyclists ride in a drafting configuration they behave rather like a single, longer streamline body. The frontal area remains at 0.36 m2, but the drag coefficient drops to 0.50 (Drafting).
4.The final streamlined configuration has a frontal area of 0.46 m2 but an even lower drag coefficient of 0.12 (Streamlined).
% CAMPARETION OF DRAGE FORCE IN DIFFERENT BICYCLE ARRANGEMENT
% DATA
rho = 1.225 % Density in STP kg/m3
A = [0.51 0.36 0.36 0.46] % FRONTAL AREA in m^2
V = [1:50] % VELOCITY IN m/s
Cd = [1.1 0.88 0.5 0.12] % DRAG COEFFEICIENT
p = 0
A_Cd = (A.*Cd) % MULTIPLICATION OF MATRIX
a_cd = A_Cd.' % TRANSPOSE
for i=a_cd(p+1)
% CALCULATIVE FORMULA
DRAG_FO = 0.5*rho.*V.^2 % DRAGE FORCE = 0.5*rho*A*Cd*V.^2
DRAG_FORCE = DRAG_FO.*a_cd
% PLOTING

plot(V,DRAG_FORCE, 'linewidth',5);

For Upright position FOR RACING
FOR DRAFTING FOR STREAMLINED
Below is the comparision between each of the following which we saw above, I had taken the comparison of every arrangment which above mention aat particular velocity at 35 m/s.
where BLUE - Upright position
ORANGE - RACING
YELLOW - DRAFTING
VOILET - STREAMLINED
CONCLUSION : Streamlined bicycle have high speed due to advantage reduction in drag.
