comparison of bending in beams

introduction

all the three cross section were assumed to be a cantilever beam, and the load of 1500N is been applied at one end and the other end is rigidly fixed the charecteristics of the beam on various points on the structure are been studied

explanation

firstly i created a solid model of the beam to be studied as per the given measurements using the tools available on the sofware interface

then proceded to simulate the model as 3d static linear and chosen the material, using the fixture option fixed one end of the model and loaded on the other end using the load option then after doing all this idid mesh and simulate, the meshautomatically created and the values of the stress strain and displacement was shown

material chosen was plain carbon steel

yeild stress=2.02x10^8 N/m^2

part1

properties

mass=11.088kgs

max stress=1.426x10^7 N/m^2

max strain=4.914x10^-5

max displacement=0.082mm

part2

properties

mass=2.129kgs

max stress=6.661x10^7 N/m^2

max strain=2.395x10^-4

max displacement=0.555mm

part3

properties

mass=3.101kgs

max stress=6.075x10^7 N/m^2

max strain=1.932x10^-4

max displacement=0.6901mm

these were the results taken from the simulation study and the mass properties of the solid model

the best model depends on what our goal is

if material cost is our aim then it is better to use the part 2 type of construction since less material is used in places which are subjected to less stress and the self weight acting on the beam is aslo less compared to the other beam structure

if better reliablity is our aim we must go with the part1 since the can withstand much more stress and displacement compare to other beam structure

the over all best is the part 2 type construction beacuse of its less mass and and better load withstanding ability it is been used in many application ..
