Challenge -1
HEV Simulation Using GT-Suite
By NAREN RAGOTHAMAN
Objective: 1) Increase vehicle mass by 50% more than the standard model
2) Increase drag coefficient by 5% more than the standard model
3) Compare the traction motor power for mass increase vs drag increase models
GT-Suite Model Modification:
The GT-Suite standard model was downloaded from skill-lync portal and used for completing the challenge.
Following screenshots indicate the case setup modification for achieving the first two listed objectives.
Mass Increased by 50%
Drag Coefficient Inc By 5%
Results:
Drag Coefficient Increased Front Traction Motor Power
Peak power requirement around 38 kW
Drag Coefficient Increased Rear Traction Motor Power
Peak Power requirement is around 27.4 kW
Mass Increased Front Traction Motor Power
Peak power is around 69.6kW
Mass Increased Rear Traction Motor Power
Peak power is around 69.6kW
Conclusion:
When the case setup was run for both cases, it is concluded that traction motor power is higher in both Front & Rear motor (~70kW in both) when mass is increased by 50%, due to higher weight.
Whereas the increase in drag coefficient has resulted in only front traction motor peaking in its power requirement, since here power requirement peaks only when speeds are higher.
