Centrifugal pump design and analysis
Aim
Aim of this challenge is to model a centrifugal pump and Obtain the relationship between Pressure ratio and mass flow rate by doing a simulation study.
Introduction
In this challenge, we are said to model a centrifugal pump with given approx dimensions and then the study is made done in order to find the total pressure, velocity, mass flow rate, etc with respect to the challenge.
Basic theory on the simulation
SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation is an intuitive Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solution embedded within SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD that enables you to quickly and easily simulate liquid and gas flow through and around your designs to calculate product performance and capabilities, this is the definition provided by Solidworks and to put it into simple words flow simulation is a tool that helps one to know the real-life flow values and also the path where and how one's fluid flows with given boundary condition so by which he can edit up to his wish and necessity.
Case setup
For this case setup, we are using the wizard to make it easy now in which the project name is given and secondly the units are made as default ones, now for the fluid water is chosen, and other parameters are left as default.
Initial and boundary conditions
And for the boundary conditions at the inlet, the environment pressure is provided, and at the outlet, a random outlet velocity is given, then the goals are selected according to the challenge.
Plots and the contours
The above plot is obtained from the results of the simulation.
A parametric study is done with different velocities at the outlet to find the total pressure at the inlet and also at the outlet and also the mass flow rate.
Observation and the conclusion
From the above parametric study results and the plots that we obtained from exporting the results to excel, we can clearly see that when velocity increases the mass flow rate is also increases, but it is vice versa when compared to the pressure ratios value.
