Centrifugal pump design and analysis
Aim :
The aim of the analysis is to obtain the relationship between pressure ratio and mass flow rate by creating a flow simulatiom in an centrifugal pump.
Introduction:
Centrifugal pumps are used to transport fluids by the conversion of rotational kinetic energy to the hydrodynamic energy of the fluid flow. The rotational energy typically comes from an engine or electric motor. They are a sub-class of dynamic axisymmetric work-absorbing turbomachinery.[1] The fluid enters the pump impeller along or near to the rotating axis and is accelerated by the impeller, flowing radially outward into a diffuser or volute chamber (casing), from which it exits.
Procedure:
Model of the cenrifugal pump is created from the drawing and a rotation of 1000 rad/s is given to the rotor and since we cannot simulate the rotor rotating a domain is created fo which the rotation is given.
After running a base line simulation a parametric study is created where the velocity is varied in the range of 10,15,20,25 and 30 m/s to obtain the mass flow rate for different velocity flow
