Buckling analysis on cyclonic separator stand
Aim: To perform the bucking analysis on the cyclonic separator stand and find the optimum place for stiffener
Modeling :
For the study, we have given the model of cyclonic separator without stiffener so bulid the stiffner by sktch on the face of stand and extrude of 50 mm with the offset of 1000mm
Simulation :
- select the new study and select buckling analysis for the study
- as we have no specified material so we apply the default material for the analysis
- Now for the fixed support, we select the base faces of stand
- Now we apply the forces of 150kN on the face of the stand
- now mesh the part to the finest for more accurate result
- Finally, run the simulation for the stand with and without stiffener
- now perform the design study to find out the optimum position for the stiffner
- in the design study select the variable as the offset provided to the stiffener and give the min value as 100 and maximum value as 1500 with the steps of 100
- provide the constraint as buckling factor of safety and provide the value greater than 20
- provide the goal as maximum buckling factor of safety
- run to calculate
Results:
- Without stiffener We got the buckling factor of safety as 9.346
- with stiffener at 1000 mm from the face of the stand
- Results of design study (optimum value is highlighted below)

Conclusion :
The optimum position for the stiffener is the at the middle which tends to increses the optimum value from 9.346 to 20.976
