Bird Strike - Project - 2
AIM:
To model an aeroplane engine by inputing nad assigning required parameters and create a simulation of a bird striking the blades of the engine model.
PROCEDURE:
The model bird_strike is imported into the lsdyna solver
The model is seperated into four seperate models such as hub, blade, casing and the bird.
THE BIRD:
The section property for the bird is set as shell with elform =16 with thickness of 2.5mm and material is MAT_ELASTIC

BLADE:
The section property for the blade is set as shell with elform =16 with thickness = 1.2mm and the material is MAT_PIECEWISE_LINEAR_PLASTICITY.

HUB:
The section property for the hub is set to be solid with elform =4 and the material is MAT_ELASTIC.

CASING:
The section property for the casing is set to be shell with elform =2 with thickness 1.5 and the material assigned is MAT_ELASTIC.

BOUNDARY CONDITIONS:
The casing is set constrained is all directions

The blade is set to motion and allowed to rotate in the x-axis with a constant angular velocity of 0.5rad/ms and the card used is INITIAL_VELOCITY_GENERATION

The value of vx in the INITIAL_VELOCITY_GENERATION is set as 20mm/ms.

CONTACT CARDS:
AUTOMATIC_NODE_TO_SURFACE
This card is established inorder to define the loads and connectivity between the bird model and the blade.

CONTACT_AUTOMATIC_SURFACE_TO_SURFACE
The casing is connected with the blades with the help of this card, where the master and the slave node sets are defined.

CONTACT_AUTOMATIC_SINGLE_SURFACE
The other blade is connected with the main blades by this card.

CONTACT_TIED_SURFACE_TO_SURFACE
The connectivity between the blade and the hub are defined using this card.

CONTROL CARDS
The control cards such as CONTROL_TERMINATION, CONTROL_ENERGY and CONTROL_HOURGLASS are defined. The database card BINARY_D3PLOT is also defined with dt = 0.3.
The DATABASE_BINARY_EXTENT is defined with strflg =1 inorder to compute the elastic strain.

Now all the seperate models are set into one complete model using the *INCLUDE card, various files such as the blade, hub, casing and the bird are now intergated into one single model.

The control card CONTROL_TIMESTEP is used to perform mass scaling by altering the value of dt2ms, whereas it would help in reducing the computational time.

RESULTS:
Thus the airplane engine model is modeled by inputing the required cards and data. As it is subjected to simulation and the behaviour of the blade component when impacted by a bird is analysed.
