Benchmarking

I've created two files explaining the benchmarking. Please view it.

Benchmarking to select the car

Basic requirements of Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii

  1. Personal choice is to have a big car.
  2. Family size is around 5 members and to travel to and fro from Bangalore to Madurai (about 500 km), the car should be comfortable and not congested.
  3. As an Indian, the main concern is also on the milage (the efficiency of fuel consumption).
  4. And Pughazhyendhii’s use within Bangalore will be higher as he takes it to his office. Therefore, we can say that he will face a lot of traffic and pollution. Hence, a good and all area accessible AC system and power/electronic window will be a necessity.
  5. Since, Pughazhyendhii is a tall guy, he personally needs a lot of space (leg room) to travel/drive comfortably.
  6. Also based on the 4th and 5th point I consider that Pughazh would prefer an automatic/CVT transmission system.
  7. The price range as mentioned would be between 8 lakhs to 10 lakhs. Generally, everyone would or will want all the positives in as lesser price range as one wants (until or unless he/she has some preferred car/ company).

From the above requirements, it is clear that some are clear requirements, and some are just valid assumptions made by me.

Now we can see the variety of car styles available in the preferred price range

In the given price range, I can say that even in today’s market I can find all the style or types of cars available. That is, we can now suggest the car in Hatchback, Sedan or SUV.

So, in the below table we can see that in each style I’ve selected 3 cars, and then for these cars we can perform the benchmarking.

Now we can see the benchmarking comparison of different styles of car.

We are performing the benchmarking grouped into different styles.

  1. So, in Hatchback we can notice that the dimensions are smaller and in some cases we can also notice that the engine size is smaller as well. But this is compensated by the reduction in the price.
  2. In sedan we can see it has much room for the travellers and has an increased engine size and also gives pretty decent mileage. And it can be observed that the max toque and max power is higher compared to hatchback cars.
  3. In SUVs, we can notice the size is much larger, giving the freedom and comfort for the travellers, but at the same time, it costs more. We can say the max toque and the max power has a very slight increase in comparison to sedans.
  4. While comparing I’ve come with a car from each style. That is Maruti Suzuki ZXi plus AMT Dual tone (hatchback), Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXi Plus AGS (Sedan) and Honda WR-V SV Petrol (SUV).
  5. Therefore, in comparing all the standout cars from each style. I would recommend Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXi Plus AGS (Sedan) as it can satisfy both the comfort, Mileage and also the price range. If we go for Hatchback the price is lesser but we need to take a hit in the comfortability while travelling for a long distance. While the SUVs can guarantee comfort, but it takes a hit in Mileage and the Price.
