Benchmarking
Problem statement:
Mr. Pughazyendi lives in banglore along with his family members which comprises of 5 people. He is willing to buy a car for his regular commute to office and also to visit his native once in a month. Through this report , we will be coming up with a proper suggestion, by carefully studying the automotive market and suggest him to buy a car that suits his likings and requirements.
Benchmarking:
Benchmarking is one of the important process followed in the OEMS during the initial stages of Product development. Its a process of evaluating the performance of existing products, services , methods by comparing it with other business or companys standards. Through this process we can be able to come up with solutions which can be implemented in our existing products for the betterment of the service.
From the case study, Mr. pugezhendi wants to buy a new car. By benchmarking tha available cars in the market, we will be suggesting him a car that suits his requirements. To start with , his family consists of 5 members and his budget is around 8-10 lacs. Since he has to travel to madurai once in a month , i wont suggest him a normal hatchbag car. Its compact and have very little passenger space. It will be really congested when traveling with 5 people for long distances. Also he has 5 yr old chid and parents who are in their 50-60s. It will be difficult for them to sit in a upright position for long distances. So i suggest him to go for a SUV , which is spacious and suitable for long drives and also there are really good suvs available for his budget.
Lets start by benchmarking the compact suv available in8-10lacs prize range. Four vehicles are chosen for benchmarking and their pros and cons are studied. These vehicles are benchmarked based on following parameters. Mileage , Bootspace, Legroom, Type of transmission, safety standards, Infotainment.

Lets evaluate based on these parameters.
| Description | Nexon | Sonet | Brezza | Kiger |
| Mileage | 22.07 Kmpl | 19.5kmpl | 19.8 Kmp | 19.17 Kmpl |
| Description | Nexon | Sonet | Brezza | Kiger |
| Bootspace | 350 Liters | 392 Liters | 328 Liters | 405 Liters |
| Description | Nexon | Sonet | Brezza | Kiger |
| Transmission | Auto | Auto | Auto | Manual |
| Description | Nexon | Sonet | Brezza | Kiger |
| Air bags | Driver and Passenger | Driver, Passenger and Side Front | Driver, Passenger and Side Front | Driver and Passenger |
Since pugazh lives in banglore, which is notorious for its traffic i would suggest him to go for automatic transmission, beacuse every time he has to manually change the gears during traffic halts which is littile bit difficult. So from the above choices, kiger doesnt have automatic transmsiion mode so its ruled out. Also he travels along with his family for long rides . so safety is utmost priority. Nexon has airbags only at driver and passenger front. whereas sonet and brezza has extra side front airbags. Though nexon provides best mileage , when it comes to safety it lags behind sonet and brezza. When comparing sonet and brezza , sonet has the best bootspace which is neccessary for pugazh for carrying cargos. Also Sonet has exellent infotainment system with 7 speakers and 10.5 inch touch screen display. Also it has fog lamps which is missing in other competitors. Considering these factors i would suggest him to go for KIA sonet in 8-10 lac price range which offers numerous benefits and great value for money.
