Assignment 7

AIM: To perform the side crash analysis using

1.create a proper interface

2.create a rigid wall with 0.1 friction

3.Assign a proper weight to model and use add masses to reach target weight 700 kg while gerring then,COG will be in center of car CG about the required range

4. Assign a initial velocity to the model for impact

5. check and make sure of no penetrations and intersections

6. use model checker for good quality

7.Time step will be 0.5 to 0.1 ms

Required outputs

1.Sectional force in the cross member.

2.Intrusion at B pillar, hinge pillar and fuel tank region.Provide recommendation on what can help to reduce Fuel tank intrusion.

3.Peak velocity of inner node of the door.

case setup

1.Import the model

2.create a type 7 interface of car itself and the recommended properties are inact=6, Igap=3, gapmin=0.5, Idel=2, Iform=2. Select master and slaves as a car nodes and elements

Type contact of car itself

2.create a rigid cylider as wall for car to impact with friction 0.1 and D-Search 1000

3. create a intial velocity for car to crash and the vector will be gave in y direction, speed is 15.6mph

Create a masses to balance the car and to balnce the Car COG will be in center of the car

Create a sections at B-pillar,rails and cross members

create a nodes at door, door hinge for calculate velocities at paticular nodes

Outputs

Von mises

Displacement

Plastic strain

sectional forces

At rail B-pillar

AT CROSS MEMBERS

B-PILLAR

velocity at door node

Displacement at b-pillar

Intrusion at hinge pillat

INTUSION AT FUEL TANK

CONCUSION

Increase the thickness of door and assign material foam ,improve the material properties to avoid severe crash at pole.

The intrusions are decreased by increasing strength of the cross members.
