REPORT ON ASSIGNMENT-5 RADIOSS Interfaces & Study of Effect of Notches Challenge

AIM:

In this study crash behavior of a tube which is composed of shell elements are studied with different geometric features and interface settings. There are six cases and case wise results and procedures are mentioned below.

CASE1:

In this case the model is simulated with given settings and geometric features. Here interface is of type-7 but Inacti of 0. And geometry possess some notches also.

CASE2: In this case the model is simulated with given settings and geometric features. Here interface is of type-7 but Inacti of 6. And geometry possess some notches also.

CASE:3

In this case the model is simulated with given settings and geometric features. Here interface is of type-11 but Inacti of 6. And geometry possess some notches also.

CASE 4:

In this case the model is simulated with given settings and geometric features. Here interface is of type-11 but Inacti of 6. And geometry possess NO NOTCHES. Here rigid body boundary condition was deactivated.

CASE 5: In this case position of notch is in the middle with previous settings.

CASE 6:

In this case notch configuration is as per directives given in the questions with previous settings.

CONCLUSION:

In this work it is observed that due to change in contact type from 7 to 11 contact force generated is decreased by a great margin, which is the main finding of the study.

In meshing the supplied model was meshed with size of 6 m.m.
