Assignment 4-RADIOSS Material Laws Challenge

REPORT OF ASSIGNMENT 4

Objective:¶

  • Run the model as it is. Name it as Law2_epsmax_failure.¶
  • In FAIL/JOHNSON, change Ifail_sh=1, Dadv=1 & Ixfem=1. Run the model as Law2_epsmax_crack.¶
  • Delete /Fail/JOHNSON card. Run the model as Law2_epsmax_nofail.¶
  • Delete the value of Eps_p_max and the run the model with name Law2.¶
  • Convert this material model into Law1 elastic with the same density, E, nu and run. Check the results.¶

CASE 7 ANIMATION FILE¶

Comparison of all the cases: ¶

.Out file data:¶

Cases Total no of cycles Energy error Mass error Simulation Time¶

  1. Case-1 49380 + 0.8% 0.000 106.24s¶
  2. Case-2 49217 + 4.1% 0.000 122.28s¶
  3. Case-3 49408 + 0.8% 0.000 107.01s¶
  4. Case-4 49304 + 1.1% 0.000 110.13s¶
  5. Case-5 47968 + 0.3% 0.000 100.32s¶
  6. Case-6 49508 +0.8 % 0.000 110.03s¶
  7. Case-7 49010 -1.5% 0.000 104.49s¶

Animation Comparison:¶

  • Case 1:The elements get deleted during the simulation.¶
  • Case 2: After changing the values in the Failure Jhonson card in case 2 the elements also get Deleted during the simulation, but the cracks are visible ¶
  • Case 3: After deleting the Failure Jhonson card in case 3 the elements get Deleted during the simulation. This happens due to the stress and strain max limit¶
  • Case 4: After deleting the Eps max value in the Material card in case 4 there is No rupture during the simulation.¶
  • Case 5: After changing the material model to Law 1 Elastic with the same values in E, Nu & Density etc. There is No rupture taking place because of the elastic behaviour during the simulation.¶
  • Case 6: In this case, the Law 27 file is used. The elements get Deleted during the simulation.¶
  • Case 7: In this case, the Law 36 file is used. In this, the elements get Ruptured during the simulation.¶

Graph Comparison:¶

  • The Hourglass energy and Contact energy have remained the same for all the cases.¶
  • The Hourglass energy varies in the case of Law_27 file but the Contact energy remains the same.¶
  • There is a steady increase in the Total energy & Internal energy at the start of the simulation and it stabilises just before the end for the first 3 Cases (i.e., Case 1, 2 & 3).¶
  • There is a stable increase in the Total energy & Internal energy right from the start of the simulation and to the end for case 4, case 5, case 6 & case 7.¶

Conclusion:¶

After looking at all the cases we can conclude that M36_PLAS_TAB /LAW36 represents the most real-life l scenario where the experimental or Lab data can be used in the simulation which is case 7. Other than that case 2 with M2_PLAS_JOHN/LAW2 material card and failure johnson model card demonstrate very relevant information about the failure of the plate(crack and delete). The LAW 27 /M27_PLAS_BRITT is mostly used for brittle material(glass).
