Assignment 3

Aim: comparison of results with base simulation and improved shell element properties

  1. Open Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0001.rad file in notepad and change the run time 55ms. Open the Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0000.h3d file in hyper view check the run time
  2. Open the Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0001.rad file in notepad and change the tfreq. As 2 and open the Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0000.rad file in hyper mesh and run the simulation and see result in hyper view checks the min no. of time step=25 (frame).same procedure for max time step=60

(Freq=run time /animation steps)

=55/25 (given)

=2.2

(Freq=run time /animation steps)

=55/60 (given)

=0.9166

  1. Open the Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0000.rad file in hypermesh check the properties and run the simulation.
  2. Open the Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0000.rad file in notepad check energy error it will be negative or positive if negative and goes on decreasing then it is normal and mass error so model is acceptable. In the simulation energy error is 0 to-10.3% hence the simulation is acceptable.
  3. Plot rigid wall forces internal energy, hourglass energy, contact energy and total energy of simulation.
  1. Open the Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0000.rad file in hypermesh check the properties change all shell element properties to recommended properties and run the simulation.
  2. Plot rigid wall forces internal energy, hourglass energy, contact energy and total energy of simulation.
  1. By comparing both the simulation, Internal energy: for changed properties the slope starts from 0 as deformation occurs internal energy goes increasing parabolically up to 55ms and highest internal energy is 19750490.0, at 54.90118408203125

Internal energy: for no changed properties the slope starts from 0 as deformation occurs internal energy goes increasing linearly up to 55ms and highest internal energy is 19312604.0 at 54.90189743041992ms

Contact energy: for changed properties the slope starts from 0 and goes increasing from 1msto 55ms as deformation start in crushing beam highest energy is at 21.700862884521484ms is 6137.7490234375and after that energy decreases.

Contact energy: for no changed properties the slope starts from 0 and goes increasing from 0.8ms to 55ms as deformation start in crushing beam highest energy at 16.901662826538086ms is 25460.953125 after that energy decreases.

Hourglass energy: for changed properties the slope is 0 up to 55ms.

Hourglass energy: for no changed properties the slope starts from 0 and goes increasing up to 55msand highest energy at 54.90189743041992ms is 6301777.5

Total energy: for changed properties the slope starts from 61314900.0 and goes decreases slightly up to1.5000112056732178ms 61300808.0and it slightly increase and again drop down linearly.

Total energy: for no changed properties the slope starts from 61314900.0 and constantly drops down .

Rigid wall forces: for changed properties the rigid wall force slightly increases and after that it decreases and again increases.

Rigid wall forces: for no changed properties the rigid wall force slightly increases and after that it decreases continuously.

  1. Yes there is change in velocity, hourglass energy, sp. Energy and plastic strain because as changes the element properties Ipass.

For changed prop:

For no changed prop:

conclusion: form this assignment we learned to run the simulation by giving differenrt prop. and checking the result, also got the information of T01. file, rad file;also got the information how to check the energy error in 1.out file, ploting graphs which shows the time history etc.
