Objectives: editing engine file and creating 3D Meshing on the given Component
Methodology:
- To check the material properties of the rail component and to calculate the speed of sound in steel rail
- To calculate the time taken for a shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to another.
- To calculate the time taken for the sound to travel through the length of rail.
- edit the engine file
- To set the frequency of animation output to a time that will give 20 animations step.
- To create 3D Meshing tetra mesh and hex mesh .
Procedure:
1 To check the material properties of the rail component and to calculate the speed of sound in steel rail.
- From the FIRST_RUN_0000.rad file , we find the necessary value;
Young’s modules =210000.0
Density =0.0078
- Speed of sound in steel rail(c)=√((E)/ρ)
Where E= young’s modules
(rho) =density
(c)=√((E)/ρ)
=√((210000)/0.0078)
Therefore speed of sound C= 5188.7452mm/ms
2 to calculate the time taken for a shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to another
Time step is the time taken for a shock wave to propagate across the small distance of the element
We know that.
Where,
L=length of the steel rail (L=1000mm)
c = speed of sound in air (c=5188.74522mm/ms
`triangle` t =0.192724822ms
Time taken for the sound to travel through the length of rail=0.19274822ms
- To edit the engine file
Step-1: opens the hyperworks software and select the solver as radios
Step-2: importing the engine file.
Step-3: Go to solver and under tree diagram select ENG_RUN under engine keywords.
Change the time step tstop as 0.192724822
Step-4: To set frequency of animation output to a time that will give 20 animations step.
Since we need 20 animations steps, we have to divide the time by 20.
Therefore
So, go to engine keywords Anim-anim/DT-engine Anime/DT and set =0.0096362411

To create 3D meshing tetra mesh and hex mesh
- Import the housing file to hypermesh.
- Hide the hub and perform the meshing operation on the cover by using tera under tetramesh
- 3D > tetra mesh > Volume tetra the elements with 5mm target
- Set Tetra mesh parameters tet collapse as 0.15
- Tools > Check elements the Component for 3D > Tetcollapse. Save failed elements and mask.
- Unmask adjacent elements and Tetra remesh the elements.
- Now hiding the cover computer and unhiding the hub component to perform the 3d meshing
- QUALITY CRITERIA : Elements sizes: Min- 2mm, Target- 5mm, Max- 7mm Tet collapse: 15
- 2D > auto mesh the entire component hub and with target element size as 5mm with respectively changing current component.
- Tools > Check elements the Component for 2D element
- Then go for 3D meshing. For that place the radio button in 3D mesh option and Go to Tetra mesh>tetra mesh parameters >change tet collapse to 0.15 >Tetra mesh>select the 2D mesh elements>Mesh to current component>mesh. This will give us the 3d tetra mesh of the 2D meshed component.
- Go to tools>Check elements>Place the radio button in 3D>click on tet collapse to find out
3D HEXA MESHING
- Import the armbracket.hm file to Hypermesh
- 2D > Automesh the base component with target element size 5mm
- 3d> Solidmap > line drag select the element to drag and lines to follow along and mesh
- Then switch on the arm curve and make it as currect and hide the base geometry
- Now mask the element so go to mask-element –by config-hex8 select entities ok and we can notice only one face of element which is used for arm curve
- For 3D spin we required circle center so press F4 and select three nodes at any one and click on the circle center.
- Go to 3D-SPIN-spin elements-2d element –select the element-give angle as 90 degree and on spin as 25. And select spin negative
- Now hide the arm curve and unhide the arm straight and we have to create faces so go to tools and select the faces and select the arm curve face will be created and hide the remaing all components
- Create a 2D mesh on the destinations component where the element on the desinations will be equal to the source part
- Go to 3D- linear solid-select from element as will as to element and nodes should be equally placed on the same element each
- Then create a 2D mesh on the top of the boss which is termed as source with element size as 10mm.
- For using solid map command we required source, destinations parts as well as reference node or line. So go to project and make a node on the arm and project in on boss surface. And select the source, destination parts and element size as 10mm.using organism command under tools translate elements from map to boss
- The final meshed model is shown below.
Conclusions:
- We find the value for given data
- The engine file is modified as per the material properties.
- 1d,3d meshing are carried out in component given
