Assignment 1
Objective
- Import the geometry and carryout the geometry clean up of the models.
- Extract the midsurface and clean up the midsurface (Fill the holes less than 5mm)
- The midsurface model is meshed with 2D elements and target length 5mm (Min 3.5mm and max 7mm).
- Assign a proper thickness by creating generic property.
Procedure
PART 1
- The model is imported.
- The geometry clean up is carried out using Quick edit (Toggle, filler surface, replace points, surface edit.)
- After the geometry clean up, the midsurface is extracted from the geometry. The midsurface is cleaned up (Toggle to supress unwanted lines, filler surface to fill holes less than 5mm).
- Use defeatur panel to remove surface fillates and edge fillates.
- Now the automesh panel is opened and all the surfaces are meshed using element size as 5mm. The elements are remeshed for proper mesh flow.
- Check elems panel is opened and elements quality is checked. Failed elements are remeshed to fulfill the elements quality parameters.
- All the free edges are removed. Check for duplicates and normals.
- Elements are moved to original geometry using organize option.
- Create the property and assign the property and thickness to the elements.
PART 2
- Import the model and clean up the geometry.
- Extract the midsurface of the model.
- Cleanup the gemetry using quick edit panel.
- Fill the holes having diameter less than 5mm.
- Mesh the surfaces with element size 5mm.
- Remesh the elements for the proper flow of the elements. Maintain the proper mesh around the holes.
- Capture the geometry properly using elements.
- Check the quality of the elements using check elements panel to fulfill the elements quality parameter.
- Free edges are removed. Check for duplicates and normals.
- Elements are moved into original components using organize option.
- Create the property and assign the property and thickness to the elements.
PART 3
- Import the model and clean up the geometry.
- Extract the midsurface of the Model.
- Use defeature panel to remove edge fillates present in the model.
- Clean up the geometry to supress unwantend topological features.
- Fill the holes having diameter less than 5mm.
- Mesh the surfaces using automesh panel using element size 5mm. Proper flow between the elements is maintained.
- Check elems panel is opened and quality of elements is checked. Failed elements are remeshed to fulfill the elements quality parameters.
- Free edges are removed. Check for duplicates and normals.
- Organise the elements into oiginal components.
- Create property and assign property and thichness to elements.
Conclusion
- For 3D models having less thickness midsurface is extracted and meshed with 2D elements. Thus there is no need of detailed volume mesh as thickness of geometry is virtually assigned to 2D elements.
