Modeling the given components with 2d shell elements in Hypermesh
Objective: To model the given geometry using 2d shell elements in Hypermesh.
Quality criteria:
| S.N | Quality Criteria | Value |
| 1 | Target Element Length | 5 |
| 2 | Min. Length | 3.5mm |
| 3 | Max. Length | 7mm |
Procedure:
- Part 1:
- Import the given geometry in Hypermesh.
- Check for topological errors such as missing or distorted faces. The free edges are removed using tools under the quick edit and surface edit panels.
- The mid-surface is generated using the auto mid-surface panel in the geometry menu.
- The mid-surfaces generated is assigned its respective thickness by defining properties with correct thickness and then assigning these properties to the mid-surface.
- The quality criteria were defined by pressing F10 on the keyboard and editing the settings.
- The mid-surface generated is defeatured for achieving a better mesh pattern.
- Now we have to mesh the Mid-surface generated. The auto-mesh tool was used for this purpose. The target element length was set as 5 mm and the mid-surfaces were modeled using quad and tria elements.
- Tria elements were avoided. The mesh was cleaned for good quality. The element connectivity is also checked.
- To visualize the mesh with thickness, turn on the detailed 2d element representation option.
- Part 2:
- Import the given geometry in Hypermesh.
- Check for topological errors such as missing or distorted faces. The imported geometry did not have any free edges.
- The mid-surface is generated using the auto mid-surface panel in the geometry menu.
- The mid-surfaces generated is assigned its respective thickness by defining properties with correct thickness and then assigning these properties to the mid-surface.

- Part 3:

Result & Conclusion :
- The given components were modeled using 2d shell elements and correct thickness was assigned to the mid-surface using a generic property.
- All the off elements were cleared and a good mesh flow was achieved in all the components.
