Assembly of Yacht

Piyush Surface Modeling of Yacht

Objective:

The objective of this project is to create a surface model of different parts of the Yacht using Solidworks. And learning new commands in SolidWorks.

To assemble the different parts modelled for the Yacht.

Part Modeling:

In the Part Modeling, you can create a part from a conceptual sketch through solid feature-based modelling, as well as build and modify parts through direct and intuitive graphical image processing.

Surface Modeling:

Surface modelling gives you the ability to create a visual representation of an object’s exterior and its contours. In other words, it is a modelling of the exterior surfaces of a body.

Surface modelling plays a major role in modelling a yacht. Most of the parts in the yacht are modelled by surface modelling.

The following are the features used in surface modelling,

Loft Surface

Loft Surfaces are surfaces generated by multiple 3D Curves or existing edges creating a smooth tangency between the selected curves.

Sweep Surfaces

Sweep surfaces are surfaces that are generated from a section curve positioned along a path. It is used to make piping or grills.

Filled Surface

The Filled Surface feature constructs a surface patch with any number of sides, within a boundary defined by existing model edges, sketches, or curves, including composite curves.

Surface Trim

The surface trim is mainly used to cut away material from a surface and provides two modes: Standard mode and Mutual trim mode.

Extend Surface

Extend Surface is used to extend the surface which is already created. There are different options available for the extended surface. We can extend the surface as the same surface or we can extend the surface tangent to the surface.

Surface knit

The Surface knit is used to knit the two free edges/open edges of the surfaces together. Also, it reduces the gap between the two edges of the surface. It is a very useful tool to knit two edges.

List of Parts to be modelled for Yacht:

The following parts of the Yacht are modelled in Solidworks and assembled.

1.Propeller

2.Radar

3.BluePrint

4.Hull

5.Garage Door

6.Front Seat

7.Middle Seat

8.Rear Seat

9.SuperStructure

10.Radar Mast

  • Propeller :

A Propeller is a rotational mechanism that transmits power by converting rotational motion into thrust. Usually consisting of 3 or more blades. It gets power from a high capacity motor. It gives motion to the Yacht.

Features used to create Propeller.

Sketch

The sketch is the two-dimensional representation of the model concerning the plane/view from the outside of the mode.

Revolve

To create a revolve feature: Create a sketch that contains one or more profiles and a centerline, line, or edge to use as the axis of revolution around which the feature revolves.

Circular Pattern

The circular pattern is used to create a pattern of the propeller. By using this tool multiple patterns propeller are created. This tool saves a lot of time and work.

Loft

Lofts are the surfaces, which are generated by multiple 3D Curves or existing edges creating a smooth tangency between the selected curves.

  • Radar:

Marine radars are X-band or S-band radars on ships, used to detect other ships and land obstacles.

Cut Extrude

Extrude cut is another cool handy feature which helps to remove materials from the 3D model.

Mirror

This feature mirrors the faces of radar. It saves time.

  • Hull:

A hull is the watertight body of a ship or boat. The hull may open at the top or it may be fully or partially covered with a deck. It is the main part of the yacht body.

Split

This tool splits two surfaces or entities.

Shell

This feature creates a shell on the surface or body.

  • Garage Door:

The garage door is used to close the garage part in Hull.

Ruled Surface:

The Ruled Surface command creates surfaces that extend out in a specified direction from selected edges.

  • Middle Seat:

The middle seat is placed at the rear side of the hull covered by the superstructure.

  • SuperStructure:

A superstructure is an extended construction of Yacht that rises above the rest of the platform in a distinct manner. Therefore superstructure means added construction to an already existing structure in the ships, this is the name given to the part of the ship that emerges from the deck.

  • Assembly:

All the parts of the Yacht are inserted into the assembly environment. And then possible mates are applied to the yacht and the yacht is assembled.

  • Conclusion:

The parts of the Yacht are modelled and appearance applied to it.

The parts are inserted into the assembly environment and the Yacht is assembled.
