Project

Analysis of Buckling Phenomena

Aim: To perform a buckling analysis on a cyclonic separator stand

Objective:

  1. To find buckling factor of safety for a cyclone separator stand without support
  2. To find the optimal position where stiffener has to be placed for the maximum buckling factor of safety.
  3. To find the buckling factor of safety with a stiffener in suggested optimal position and verify it against the maximum buckling factor of safety generated by the design study.

Discussion: From the first study, it is found that the buckling factor of safety for cyclone separator stand without support is 9.3692. In the design study obtained, the optimum position to place a stiffener is 1000mm from the top of the table and the maximum buckling factor of safety is approximately 27.749.

The maximum buckling factor of safety is verified by the third study.

Conclusion:

Hence the buckling factor of safety of the cyclone separator stand without support is 9.3692. The optimum position of stiffener to obtain maximum buckling factor of safety is 1000mm from the tabletop. The maximum buckling factor of safety is approximately 27.749, with stiffener.
