Odd Shaped Enclosure
Objective
To design an odd shaped enclosure using the sheet metal application in Siemens NX.
Introduction
Sheet metal design is a vast domain in the design industry. It is used in many sectors inlcuding the automotive sector. In this sheet metal casing design we will look at the design approach using the Siemens NX (CAD) software through various diagrams, explanations and images.
Design Approach
Figure 1 above shows the flow chart of the methods used to acheive the final design of the odd shaped enclosure.
Description
In the modelling mode, a sketch was created and extruded to achieve a model which would then be used to create sheet metal enclosure. Back into the sheet metal mode, sheet metal from solid option was used to wrap the required surface of the model with sheet metal surfaces. After achieving the sheet metal, the previouslt created model was hidden. Flanges were added on the required side/s. Jog feature was also used on a side to create the jog bend using the sketched line.
The model was unbended using the unbend option. Beads and holes were added and the model was rebended using rebend option. Flat pattern and drawings were then created of the final enclosure.

Figure 4 shows the side view of the odd shaped enclosure.
Figure 5 shows the back view of the odd shaped enclosure.
Figure 6 above shows the flat solid view of the odd shaped enclosure.
Drawings
Figure 7 above shows the 2D drawing of the odd shaped enclosure.
Figure 8 above shows the flat pattern for the odd shaped enclosure designed using NX.
Conclusion
The odd shaped enclosure was designed and the drawings were successfully displayed in this project report. The model was designed and the drawings and flat pattern drawings were created using Siemens NX.
