Challenge

Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_5_Odd Shaped Enclosure

Design of Odd-shaped Enclosure

Objective

To Design a sheet metal Odd-shaped enclosure by using NX CAD

Introduction

Sheet metal fabrication is the process of forming metal sheets to the desired shape using different manufacturing methods. The completion of a product usually comprises many steps from cutting and bending to surface treatment and assembling. Often times a variety of fabrication techniques can be used to achieve a similar end result. But the right choice is still existing, depending on the costs and needs. There are many different industries that make use of sheet metal, whether it’s stainless steel, thin aluminum strips, or copper brass, here are a few industries that make frequent use of this material.

  • Automotive
  • Aerospace
  • Construction

Design methodology

Features used

1. Extrude-Extrude, makes body or surface by extruding sketch, face or closed area

2.Sheet metal from solid - Converts solid bodies to a sheet metal bodies by using defined rules in command

3. Flanges -Ads flange on an edge and create a bend between two walls. The flange can only be made on a straight edge.

4. Jogs - Lifts one side of the sheet metal part through a defined line. Ads flange between the stationary side and the lifted side.

5.Unbend - Flattens sheet model through selected bends.

6.Beads-This feature is used to create a bead on the sheet which generally strengthens it.

7.Hole - With this feature, you will be able to drill standard-sized simple holes on 3D geometries in Siemens NX

8. Rebend-Rebend is the unbent feature of the sheet metal model. It uses after the Unbend command If needed.

9. Flat pattern - create a flattened (unbent) sheet metal view in the drafting

10. Drawing sheet
