Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_2_Box Assembly

BOX ASSEMBLY:

Objective: To create the box assembly following the given inputs.

Design methodology/approach:

  1. Start base using the tab option following the dimensioning given
  2. Create two flanges on the side with a length of 70mm and a bend radius of 10mm
  3. Next perpendicular to that 1st flange create another flange with the same length following the input dimensions
  4. Use the corner option to make the corner on both sides for the edges
  5. create the short flange extension with a 0.019mm short length, and 0 bend radius with the web option as the length reference to either side but for opposite edges
  6. Create a flange of 5mm in length with 0.5mm on the previous short flange edges opposite
  7. On those 5 mm flanges create open hem flanges following the given hem parameters
  8. Mirror the entire model and use unite option to make it one single body
  9. Create the dimple features on the sides and o the bottom
  10. Create the beads on the bottom four sides near the corners
  11. To create the top lid on the top use the tab and refer to the input dimensions given
  12. Create a flange extension of 3mm to ensure the lid is not slipping side and for a perfect closing mechanism
  13. Create two tabs on the lid and on the adjacent side of the box
  14. To create the loops for the circular opening mechanism, create the hem flange select the open loop, and refer to the given to ensure the proper orientation
  15. Unbend the hem and use a normal cut-out to create spacing
  16. Create the same Hems loops flanges from the lid tab but ensure their position fits into the spacing of normal cut out
  17. Make necessary changes to flanges and make sure the loops are concentric and inline.

Feature Info:

Use the Tab command to create a base feature or a tab by extruding a sketch along a vector by a specified thickness value. You can also use this command to create a secondary tab if the work part includes existing sheet metal features. You can do this by adding material to existing faces and bend regions of an existing sheet metal part.

Use the Flange command to create a single flange instance or multiple instances by selecting single or multiple base edges.

Use the Hem Flange command to modify an edge of a sheet metal part by folding it onto itself for the purpose of safe handling or to increase edge stiffness. The hem flange is always created as a secondary feature on a base part.

Use the Closed Corner command to modify two flanges in one operation and to close the corner where the two flanges meet. During flattening, the corner and relief geometry are made appropriate for a flat pattern.

Use the Break Corner command to round or chamfer sharp corners of a tab or flange.

Use the Bend command to modify the model by bending material on one side of a sketch line, adding a bend between the two sides.

Use the Unbend command to unbend a portion of the part to construct cutout features, hole features, or deform features across a bend. You can later reform the bend to represent the true formed state of the model.

Use the Bead command to lift material along the contour of a sketch that simulates a stamping tool. Beads can also be created to stiffen sheet metal parts.

Use the Rebend command to return an unbend feature to its previous bent state. Any features added after the unbend operation are properly repositioned during the rebend operation.

Use the Dimple command to lift an area of the model inside a sketch that simulates a stamping tool. You can create an indentation in a sheet metal part using a sketched section as the dimple outline.

Use the Normal Cutout command to cut material by projecting a sketch onto the model and then cutting perpendicular to the faces intersected by the projection.
