Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_2_Box Assembly

BOX ASSEMBLY

OBJECTIVE:

To create a box assemly using the given sketch and the advanced tools of NX sheet metal.

INTRODUCTION:

To create the box assembly with the given procedure using the following advanced NX sheet metal tools.

  1. Sketch- To draw the required diagram with given dimensions.
  2. Tab - The base feature created using the sketch with required thickness.
  3. Flange - To create a flange at required distance with the use of a edge in tab .
  4. Hem flange - Same as the flange but it has various types but here we use only open loop and closed types only.
  5. Dimple - With the use of a sketch we will create the depression on the part.
  6. Bead - With the use of a sketch the bead is created , it gives strength to the part.
  7. Mirror feature- To create the same feature on other side exactly by using a centre plane.
  8. Mirror Body - It is used to create the same body on the other side also with the use of a centre plane or line.
  9. Unite- Join two bodies or features.
  10. Unbend- To flatten the feature by specifying the base and the bend regions.
  11. Rebend - To rebend the bend areas by specifying the base feature.
  12. Normal Cutout- To remove the specific area by using a sketch.
  13. Flat pattern- The 2D view of the flattened solid.

METHADOLOGY:

DESCRIPTION:

Create a sketch on XY plane with 200 X 150 mm dimension.

Finish the sketch and give the tab thickness of about 1mm.

Create a flange on the length side at 200mm with bend radius of 10 mm.

Create flange on both flanges that are created at 200mm. The flange should be of 70 mm in length.

The corners of all the flanges are closed.

Again a flange Of 0.02 is created with the edge of 70 mm flange.

Again a flange is created by using the edge of that flange at 6.5mm.

A hem flange is created with open type at 5 mm bend radius.

Mirror the body by using YZ plane as a centre plane.

Unite the two bodies together.

Create a dimple using a sketch

Mirror the feature on the other side with centre plane as a ZX plane.

Create a dimple on the bottom side of the box.

Unbend the box with base as the large rectangular face.

Rebend them using the same base feature.

create the bead on the bottom of the box.

Create hem flange on the edges of box as closed type.

Create a datum plane by offseting at a height of 203mm.

Create the outline of the Box on the plane by using sketch.

Tab it to 2 mm thickness.

Create flanges at the edge of the lid with 2 mm length.

Create tab at the side of the box using a sketch.

Create the flange at the edge of the tab.

Create a hem flange on the edge of the flange.

Unbend the hem flange and create the normal cutout.

Rebend the flanges

Mirror it on the other side using YZ plane as a centre plane.

Create a tab on the top of the lid using the sketch.

Create a flange using the edge of tab at 36 degree.

Create a hem flange with open loop.

Unbend it and create a normal cutout using a sketch.

Rebend the hem flange and adjust it with the other flange that is created in the box.

Flat pattern the parts seperately.

CONCLUSION:

Thus the Box assembly is created using the given sketch and procedure.

The drafting and the flat pattern are attached with the Part.
