Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_2_Box Assembly

Project Title: Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_2_Box Assembly.

Objective: To design the Box Assembly using given requirements, in SIEMENS NX Sheet

Metal Application.

Introduction:

Sheet metal is metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. Sheet metal is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking, and it can be cut and bent into a variety of shapes. Countless everyday objects are fabricated from sheet metal. Thicknesses can vary significantly; extremely thin sheets are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm (0.25 in) are considered plate steel or "structural steel".

heet metal is available in flat pieces or coiled strips. The coils are formed by running a continuous sheet of metal through a roll slitter.

NX Sheet Metal: Creating fast, accurate flat patterns is the goal of any organization that manufactures products which contain sheet metal parts. NX Sheet Metal provides a set of tools within the NX design environment that allows for simple and fast design of sheet metal parts, dependent on their material and manufacturing process, the most common of which is straight brake sheet metal forming.

Design Methodology:

Description:

  1. NX Cad 12.0 software tool is opened and click new in the quick access tool bar.
  2. A new modal popup appears. Choose Sheet metal and save the part names Box_Design.
  3. Select the XY plane. And draw a rectangle of 200*150mm.
  4. Using a tab feature select the drawn rectangle and create the tab.
  5. Create a flange with a length of 200mm on the both sides.
  6. Now create a flange on the newly created flange of 70mm length.
  7. Use the closed corner feature to close the open spaces in the parts created.
  8. Create a flange with bend radius of 0.0019999mm and bend radius of 0mm.
  9. Create a flange of length of 6.5mm and bend radius of 0.5mm.
  10. Create the flange on the other flange part as done in step 8 and 9.
  11. Use hem feature to adjust on the bend in outside option and adjust as per the convienence.
  12. Use mirror body feature for the body to replicate on the other plane.
  13. Unite feature to unite the both parts.
  14. Create a dimple on the side of the box as shown in the diagram.
  15. Create a dimple on the back side of the box.
  16. Unbend and rebend the box assembly created.
  17. Create the bead on the down surface of the box assembly and mirror it on the other side.
  18. Create a hem surface on the flange.
  19. Create a new plane at a 203mm at offset from z axis.
  20. Sketch on the new surface and design the lid.
  21. Create a flange on the newly created lid.
  22. Sketch the tab and break the corner and create a flange and hem as shown in the figure with the dimension’s asper required.
  23. Mirror the created part on the other side of the box.
  24. Now create the tab on the upper side of the box and break corner of 10mm.
  25. Create the flange and hem and cut the part using normal cut feature.
  26. End the exercise
