Challenge

Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_1_Casing Design

Design of sheet metal casing by using NX CAD

Objective

To Design a sheet metal Casing by using NX CAD

Introduction

Sheet metal fabrication is the process of forming metal sheets to the desired shape using different manufacturing methods. The completion of a product usually comprises many steps from cutting and bending to surface treatment and assembling. Often times a variety of fabrication techniques can be used to achieve a similar end result. But the right choice is still existing, depending on the costs and needs.

There are many different industries that make use of sheet metal, whether it’s stainless steel, thin aluminum strips, or copper brass, here are a few industries that make frequent use of this material.

  • Automotive
  • Aerospace
  • Construction

Design methodology

Features used

  1. Tab -Creates a base of the sheet metal by using a sketch
  2. Bend -Bends sheet metal model through a line.
  3. Flanges - Ads flange on an edge and create a bend between two walls. The flange can only be made on a straight edge.
  4. Unbend - Flattens sheet model through selected bends. To activate command:
  5. Rebend – Rebend is the unbent feature of the sheet metal model. It uses after the Unbend command If needed.
  6. Hole – With this feature, you will be able to drill standard-sized simple holes on 3D geometries in Siemens NX
  7. Beads - his feature is used to create a bead on the sheet which generally strengthens it.
  8. Dimple - It is used to draw a dimple on selecting a curve for modeling the sheet.
  9. Mirror Feature -Mirror Feature command makes the symmetry of the features in the model.
  10. Flat pattern - create a flattened (unbent) sheet metal view in the drafting.
  11. Drafting - Quickly and easily create engineering drawings from 3D models using the drafting tool in NX CAD
