Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_1_Casing Design

Project Title: Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_1_Casing Design.

Objective: To design and drafting the Casing Design using given requirements, in SIEMENS NX Sheet

Metal Application.

Introduction:

Sheet metal is metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. Sheet metal is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking, and it can be cut and bent into a variety of shapes. Countless everyday objects are fabricated from sheet metal. Thicknesses can vary significantly; extremely thin sheets are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm (0.25 in) are considered plate steel or "structural steel". Sheet metal is available in flat pieces or coiled strips. The coils are formed by running a continuous sheet of metal through a roll slitter.

NX Sheet Metal: Creating fast, accurate flat patterns is the goal of any organization that manufactures products which contain sheet metal parts. NX Sheet Metal provides a set of tools within the NX design environment that allows for simple and fast design of sheet metal parts, dependent on their material and manufacturing process, the most common of which is straight brake sheet metal forming.

Design Methodology:

Description:

  1. NX Cad 12.0 software tool is opened and click new in the quick access tool bar.
  2. A new modal popup appears. Choose Sheet metal and save the part names Casing_Design.
  3. Select the XY plane. And draw a rectangle of 60*50mm.
  4. In the menu choose sheet metal->preferences->Part properties.
  5. Set all the four global parameters to 1mm.
  6. Using a tab feature select the drawn rectangle and create the tab.
  7. Select a plane P on the tab and create a 5*40mm rectangle w.r.t x-axis which coincides with the left edge of the rectangular metal sheet.
  8. Use the feature cutout and cut the drawn rectangular part.
  9. Draw a line at a distance of 10mm from the upper left corner of the sheet metal part. Same draw the same line of distance 10mm from the lower left corner of the part.
  10. Use the feature bend option to bend the sheet metal.
  11. Add 5mm flange to the edge of the sheet metal part and apply to the corresponding symmetric edge of the sheet metal part.
  12. Using feature break corner and blend method in the feature of radius 1mm cut is at edge of the part.
  13. Unbend the bend parts using the feature unbend.
  14. Draw a line on the center of the lines with respect to x axis and datum reference.
  15. Use the feature hole and create the hole of the drawn line center of every corner of Screw clearance hole type, M2 screw size, H13 fit, and depth limit option to through all.
  16. On the XY plane create a 5mm half sketch and make the mirror on all other sides.
  17. Use studio spline and type poles select all the poles in the clockwise direction to create the new spline.
  18. Move curve feature is used to make the motion of the curve at 45° and axis (0,0,0).
  19. Dimple the sketch created of 1mm and side wall to material inside and rounding field to 1mm.
  20. Now draw the circle of 5mm on the XY plane.
  21. Bead feature is used to create the bead of the hole. Now make that to apply on the sides using mirror option.
  22. Rebend the modal.
  23. Create a draft of the modal using Flat pattern feature.
  24. End the Exercise.
