Problem statement:

To Run a pipe flow simulation with an inlet Reynolds number of 100,1000 and 10,000.

And for each of these cases to do the following

1. Place line probes at 95%, 90% and 85% of the pipe length.

2. Compare the normalized velocity profile at each of these locations

3. Normalize the velocity profile by the inlet velocity.

Procedure:

Step 1:Create a pipe with dimensions diameter: 20mm;Thickness : 3mm ; length: 100mm by using sketch command and extrude it and used shell tool for giving thickness.

Step 2 : Now ,create line probes at 85% ,90% and 95 % of the pipe length using sketch tool by selecting refrenece as right plane.

Step 3: Now created lid for the object to make it as an completely closed figure using create lid command in flow simulation.

Step 4: click on New button and give the project name "pipe_flow" and saved it. then select wizard option and give the input parameters say "internal flow" ; "SI unit system" and select "air" as fluid for the simulation and apply the parameters.

Step 5: For input velocities for given reynolds numbers i.e. 100,1000,10000: used formula, v=(Re*kinematic viscosity)/diameter of pipe. where kinematic viscosity= 1.47*10^-5 and diameter=14mm. hence we got velocity is equal to .105 for reynolds number equal to 100. and 1.05 and 10.5 for 1000 and 10000 respectively.

Step 6: mesh settings change using edit deifinition and used mesh: x=10,y=40,z=10.

Step 7:Now given the boundary conditions for the pipe. Give the calculated velocity as inlet velocity..105 for Re=100 on one side of the pipe. Give static pressure as 101325 pa on other side of the pipe and give real wall condition for shell wall.

Step 8: Now we create cut plots at 85% ; 90% and 95% lines probes to analyse the normalized velocity at that points respectively.

Step 9: Now created a xy plot for the three line probes for comparing the velocities at the line probes for different reynolds number. and run the simulation.

Step 11: Now create a new parametric study for different reynolds number. Give the input variables as velocity normal to the face and output parameter as selected cut plots and xy plots. In scenario give the input velocity as .105 ; 1.05 and 10.5 for reynolds number 100,1000,10000 respectively.and the run simulation by clicking play button.

RESULTS:

flow simulaton through pipe for reynolds number say 100,1000,10000 is done. noemalized velocity at different lenghts achived. we got results of normalized velocity profile for different Re. and variation in curve obtained in plot. different plots and simulation images obtained.
