Week 8 Challenge
OBJECTIVE:
3D (Tetra) Mesh the attached files assembly according to quality parameters as provided.
PROCEDURE:
3 Files were to be meshed:
- Housing Assembly:
- There were 2 components inside the assembly.
- Meshed them one at a time.
- First checked if the component is a solid. It was a solid.
- Then deleted the solid and was left with surfaces.
- Cleaned up the surfaces, defeatured some fillets and lines to ensure good mesh quality.
- Created a tria mesh with element size 5. It was a surface mesh.
- Then created tetramesh.
- Ensured that the tetcollapse is above 0.15 for the meshed components.
- Repeated the same process for second component as well.
B. Tetmesh Model
- There was one component inside the assembly.
- First checked if the component is a solid. It was a solid.
- Then deleted the solid and was left with surfaces.
- Cleaned up the surfaces, defeatured some fillets and lines to ensure good mesh quality.
- Created a tria mesh with element size 6. It was a surface mesh.
- Then created tetramesh.
- Ensured that the tetcollapse is above 0.15 for the meshed component.
C. Chassis Assembly
- There were 8 components inside the assembly, symmetrically arranged.
- As the components had some interference, used translate command to adjust the components and ensure there was not interference.
- First checked if the component is a solid. It was a solid.
- Used Quick TetraMesh option from Utilities, with element size set at 6 and created mesh for one component.
- The tetramesh was made but tet collapse was less than 0.15 for many elements.
- Ensured the quality was satisfied using Measure option and edited the failed elements.
- Then organized the elements, by transferring the elements into its respective parent component.
- The same process was repeated for all the components on one end, except for the hub.
- For the hub, the solid was deleted and a surface tria mesh was made.
- Then a volume tetramesh was done using the tria elements.
- Once all components on one side were meshed, they were reflected to the other side using a temporary node placed in the middle as base point.
- The 3D mesh of Chassis Assy is now completed.
LEARNING OUTCOME:
This challenge has helped me learn to perform 3D Mesh, as well as improve my current meshing skills. 3D Mesh is completely new to me and I have now learned a new approach to mesh components
RESULT:
The given 3 models were meshed according to the given quality criteria.
