WORM GEAR SIMULATION

WORM GEAR SIMULATION:

OBJECTIVE:

The objective of this project is to perform Transient Structural analysis on a worm gear setup. The results of this project is going to be obtained by simulating the worm gear model.

PROCEDURE:

The Transient Structural is selected and the model is imported in the ANSYS Workbench. The model is then edited by cutting the gear other than the worm gear by half so that the simulation can be run in the Academic version.

The model is loaded in the Mechanical and the parts are assigned to the material of Structural Steel. Then the contact region of the worm and the gear is selected by selecting the target faces in which the worm is going to have a contact during the rotation. Then the revolute joints are given to the worm and the gear.

MESHING:

The meshing is done by the default size with the Adaptive sizing and the medium Smoothening.

ANALYSIS:

In this setting, 30 time steps are given to run the simulation with the initial, minimum and maximum time step as 0.2, 0.2 and 0.5 s respectively and the weak spring to program controlled and the output controls to yes except the contact miscellaneous. Then the Joint load is given with the rotation of 1500 degrees with a difference of 50 deg between each step so that it doesn’t obtain any convergence issues.

RESULT:

The simulation is run and the results are obtained.

CONCLUSION:

As per the obtained results, we can find that the maximum Equivalent Stress and Equivalent Elastic Strain are obtained in the flank region due to the continuous supply of load where the wear may develop. And the Total Deformation is occured whenever the load is applied in all tooth.
