Project

Verify the Weld joints for different materials

Objectives;

Simulate three different types of welding using three different weld materials (Stainless Steel, Aluminium Alloy, Bronze). And each cases find out the Directional Deformation and equivalent strain experienced by the setup. Identify the weld joint that experiences the highest equivalent stress in each case and compare the results for all three cases.

Procedure;

Case 1; Stainless Steel ,

In first case to assign the Stainless Steel material in engineering data. Then import the geometry in gemetry file. After that open model file select the material (Stainless Steel) both weldments and plates and check the co-ordinates system.

Goto the contact section select the big plate to Rib1 is a frictional type and big plate to Rib2 is a frictional type and Big plate to small plate is a frictional type and Small plate to Rib 1 is a frictional type and Small plate to rib 2 is a Frictional type .

Contacts - Frictional Type,

Include the budy size meshing applied 7mm of big plate and small plate. Select the static structural section applied the fixed support is selct the all hole inner face of big size plate. then Force apply the 15000N in Y direction at small plate hole.

Meshed Model,

Fixed Support,

Force applied in Y-direction,

In solution part added the Directional deformation and Equivalent Strain experienced by the set-up and Equivalent strain at each weld joint solution.

Results;

Directional Deformation,

Equivalent Strain;

Equivalent Stress at Weld Joints;

Case 2; Aluminium Alloy,

Assign the Stainless Steel and aluminium alloy material in engineering data. After that open model file select the material (Aluminium Alloy) both weldments and Rips and Stainless steel material give the two plates.

And another one for examples Meshing, Contacts, Static structural( Fixed support and Force) and Solution also same to the case 1.

Results;

Directional Deformation,

Equivalent Strain;

Equivalent Stress at Weld Joints;

Case 3; Bronze,

Assign the Bronze and Copper Alloy and aluminium alloy material in engineering data. After that open model file select the material (Bronze) applied to the weldments and Stainless steel material give the two plates and applied the copper material to the two Rips.

And another one for examples Meshing, Contacts, Static structural( Fixed support and Force) and Solution also same to the case 1.

Results;

Directional Deformation,

Equivalent Strain;

Equivalent Stress at Weld Joints;

Comparision and Discussion;

Aluminum alloy is practically not stronger than Stainless steel. stainless steel used in weldments and rips ( In case 2 ) its equivalent strain and results were better to Aluminum alloy. Compared the two material ( Stainless steel and Aluminium alloy ) in weldments Stainless steel most useful compared to Aluminium Alloy. Because, Stainless steel Equivalent Stress value in Max 302.39MPa this value is more than Aluminium alloy.

In 3rd case used the Bronze material to the weldments its equivalent stress value is better to the Aluminium alloy. Because, Bronze material is most stronger than the Aluminum alloy.Bronze material have the excellent wear resistance and heavy load carrying abilities.

1. Stainless steel is a really poor conductor compared to most metals. Aluminum is a very good conductor of electricity. Due to its high conductance, light weight, and corrosion resistance, high-voltage overhead power lines are generally made of aluminum.Stainless is relatively easy to weld, while Aluminum can be difficult

2. The alloys are considered to be non-sparking and suitable for equipment designed to handle explosives, petroleum, chemical and gas products. Alloys with more than 10% aluminum content can be heat treated, further increasing their tensile strength.
