Verification of Weld Joints using ANSYS WorkBench
Verification of Weld Joints using ANSYS WorkBench
Simulate three different types of welding using three different weld materials
Meshing :-
Mesh Size :- for Plates 6mm & for Ribs and Weldments 4mm
Mesh Type :- Tetrahedron
Weld Material used :-
Case 1. Stainless Steel: In this case, the material of the plates must also be the same. Use Stainless steel for both weldments and plates. No need to add flux to the weldments.
Weld Material : Stainless Steel (for Plates, Ribs, Weldments)
(a) Equivalent Stress : Max. = 363.59 MPa & Min. = 0.1159 MPa
(b) Equivalent Strain : Max. = 0.0010513 & Min. = 2.2084e-6
(c) Equivalent Stress (on Weldments) : Max. = 363.59 MPa & Min. = 2.147 MPa
(d) Directional Deformation (y-axis) : Max. = 0.31384 & Min. = -0.036502
Case 2. Aluminium Alloy:The material to be chosen for this case is Aluminium alloy(high strength, wrought). [Plate material to be used is stainless steel]
(a) Equivalent Stress : Max. = 355.01 MPa & Min. = 0.10399 MPa
(b) Equivalent Strain : Max. = 0.0011549 & Min. = 1.6481e-6
(c) Equivalent Stress (on Weldments) : Max. = 311.84 MPa & Min. = 2.4683 MPa
(d) Directional Deformation (y-axis) : Max. = 0.33366 & Min. = -0.036272
Case 3.Bronze: In order to simulate \"Brazing\", you should be using bronze as the weld material. Assign Stainless Steel to both plates and Copper to the \"Ribs\".
(a) Equivalent Stress : Max. = 361.94 MPa & Min. = 0.12997 MPa
(b) Equivalent Strain : Max. = 0.0013306 & Min. = 3.4542e-6
(c) Equivalent Stress (on Weldments) : Max. = 319.42 MPa & Min. = 1.4178 MPa
(d) Directional Deformation (y-axis) : Max. = 0.36184 & Min. = -0.034171

(a) Equivalent Stress (MPa) :- Case 1 > Case 3 > Case 2
(b) Equivalent Strain :- Case 3 > Case 2 > Case 1
(c) Equivalent Stress (Weldment) :- Case 1 > Case 3 > Case 2
(d) Directional Deformation :- Case 3 > Case 2 > Case 1
Equivalent Stress & Equivalent Stress (Weldment) is more in case 1 lower in case 2, So better to go with case 2.
