Verification of Weld Joints
Aim : To perform static structural analysis on the weld joints using different materials for the welds and compare the results with each other.
Model :
Material Selection and their Properties :
1) Stainless Steel
2) Aluminium alloy(high strength, wrought)
3) Bronze Cast
Procedure :
- Drag and drop static structure on workspace. In engineering data select the specified materials. In this case, Stainless steel, Aluminium alloy(High strength,Wrought),Bronze cast and Copper Cast are selected.
- Open Design modeller and import the geometry. Close the design modeller.
- Open Mechanical Solver and specify the approiate material for the plates, ribs and welds for the following analysis.
- Mesh the model approriately. Apply sizing option for the big and small plate of 4 mm.
- In analysis settings, apply fixed support to the big plate in the holes and force of 15000 N on the slot of small plate.
- Now for results, apply equivalent stress, equivalent strain, directional deformation and stress on the welds and Safety factor for welds.
- After applying Click on Solve.

e) Equivalent Stress (Welds) -
f) Safety Factor (Welds) -
Conclusion :
From the above table, We can write
- The Directional deformation of the Bronze material is maximum as compared to two other materials but there is not much significant amount of difference between them.
- The Equivalent Stress of Bronze is also maximum as compared to other two materials and here too there is no significant difference between them.
- As for Equivalent strain, it is almost same for all the materials.
- For the Equivalent Stress in the Welds, Stainless Steel has the maximum Stress followed by Bronze and Aluminium alloy has the least stress.
