VERIFICATION OF WELD JOINTS USING FEA IN ANSYS
PROJECT OBJECTIVE: To compare the equivalent stress, directional deformation of weld joints under the action of load using ansys workbench.
It is also required to compare the results using 3 different materials namely STAINLESS STEEL, ALUMINIUM ALLOY AND BRONZE.
MODEL:
MATERIALS:
The properties of the material being used are:
STAINLESS STEEL:
ALUMINIUM ALLOY:
CAST BRONZE:
CONTACT DETAILS:
FRICTIONAL contacts are used with a frictional coefficient of 0.2 .
JOINTS:
Fixed joint is given to the big plate as it is to be fixed to wall. The fixed suppports are given to the holes in the big plate.
A load is given on the smaller plate hole of magnitude 15000N.
MESHING:
A body sizing of 7mm is given to the big and small plate.

CONCLUSION:
aximum stresses occur near the rectangular holee since it is the application of load.
The weld joints between the small plate and the ribs experience the maximum stress compared to other weld joints.
It is seen that the model with CAST BRONZE has experienced the maximum stress and it is much more vulnerable to failure.
The weld joints for structural steel experiences the most stresses and hence it should be less prefered.
