Project

To perform 3D meshing on different models as per the given quality criteria

Objective: 1) To perform 3D meshing on different models as per the given quality criteria.

2) To learn different 3D meshing techniques.

Procedure :

For first model:

Step 1) Retrive and observe the model:

- First open the file of the housing_model in hypermesh with optistruct profile selected.

- After that delete the any solid if present. and observe the geometry by rotating, zooming, pan.

Step 2) Geometry cleanup:

- After observing the model decide the geometry cleanup strategy as per the given quality criteria.

- Remove the fillets or toggle edges if required.

Step 3) 2d Automesh :

- After meshable geometry is obtained, 2d meshinf is performed with required quality criteria.

- min length as 2mm and maximum length of 7mm and target length of 5mm is selected.

- and tria element type is selected.

- All the mesh errors related are removed using quality cleanup tool and remeshing the some elements.

Step 4) Generate 3D mesh from 2D mesh:

-

- Go to 3D > tetramesh > elements > mesh

- Go to the 3D and select tetra mesh and instead of components select elements.

- click on mesh to generate 3D mesh.

- Go to the tools , Check elements and go to the 3d menu for checking tet collapse.

- Put the given tet collapse value as 0.15.

Step 5) Remove tet collapse error:

- Click on the tet collapse and save failed elements. We have to work on the each element to remove the tet collapse error.

After removing all the tet collapse errors final 3d mesh is generated for each component seperately.

Procedure:

For model2 and model3 :

1) Here instead of going for 2D meshthe 3D emsh is directly generated uaing quick tetra mesh menu.

2) First the model is opened in hypermesh and optistruct profile is selected.

3) Observe the model and perform the geometry cleanup if required.

4) To generate the 3D mesh of 6mm size go to the utility browser and select geom/mesh.

Select the component and put the required element size.

5) Select the component first and give the mesh size and minimum element size as per the required crietria.

6) Select mesh type as Trias only. As we required 3D tetra mesh. and click on mesh. a 3D mesh will be generated after some processing time.

7) Similar process iscarried for the model 3. And elements are organised after performing thr quick tetra meshing.

Result and conclusion:

1) 3D meshing is performed on different models and all the quality criteria is satisfied.

2) We learn two methods for generating 3D mesh

i) In this method we directly go to the 3D panel and select the geometry or component and click on mesh. But while using this method, there is no control over quality and flow.

ii) In the second method we first perform 2D meshing with tria elements and with required size of the elements. quality is checked on 2D elements.and then we convert the 2D tria elements into the 3D elements. This method is widely used in the industry. As we can control the quality of elements.
