The Transient Analysis on a Piston and Cam mechanism using ANSYS Workbench

OBJECTIVES:

To perform the analysis to simulate a sphere pressing on a plate.Using Structural steel for both sphere and plate but the material of the plate must be Non Linear.

REPORT:

Initially the Sphere model has been imported and the rename has been done.

Then in the connections the default conctact where fliped and renamed based on Definition and conctact has been defined with frictionless conctact.

And then faces of Barrel has been Fixed.

And Revolute joint has been done for Barrel cam 2000.

Next to the Revolute Joint, Transversal Joint is added to cam follower.

And the mesh has been done for the component through face sizing of 3mm and adaptive sizing is swiched off.

The simulation is ran with 9 steps with auto-step on and all output controls are on except conctact m.

And then Bottom side of plate is fixed, and diplacement of sphere of 4mm in negative Y-direction towards plate.

And the Solution is obatained for Stress,Strain,Directional Dispalcement.

RESULTS:

CASE 1(Frictionless):

Directional Deformation:

Equivalent stress:

Equivalent strain:

Total Deformation:

Force Reaction:

CASE 2(Friction co-eff 0.1):

Directional Deformation:

Equivalent stress:

Equivalent strain:

Total Deformation:

CASE 3(Friction co-eff 0.2):

Directional Deformation:

Equivalent stress:

Equivalent strain:

Total Deformation:

Force Reaction:

CONCLUSION:

The Total Deformation is less in Frictionless and high in Frictional(0.2).

The Equivalent Stress is less in Frictionless and high in Frictional(0.2).

The Equivalent Strain is less in Frictionless and high in Frictional(0.2).
