The Neon Side Crash in Hypercrash

OBJECTIVE:

To perform the side crash analysis of the Neon BIW model on the rigid pole and get the output results intrusion at B-pillar, Hinge, Fuel tank and peak velocity at the inner node of the door and sectional force on the cross-section.

PROCEDURE:

  • The frontal model imported via radioss solver deck then, ensured the unit system followed by Kg, mm, ms.

  • Hypercrash is checking the issues present in the model then clear the issue in hypermesh.

  • To create a TYPE-7 in the given model, this type is the node to surface contact interface and assign the recommended parameters in type 7 interface,

Recommended parameters values,

Inacti = 6,

Istf = 4,

Idel = 2,

Iform = 2,

Fric = 0.2,

Gapmin = 0.5,

Igap = 2.

  • If there any penetration and intersection present your model using the penetration checker and solved it.
  • create a cylindrical rigid pole on the side of the model near to B-pillar with friction 0.1 and this one is getting the impact.
  • In this model to get the weight of 700kg using admas option with Type 2. this one is additional surface mass applied on the shell area. Then give type 0 this one is mass is added to each node of the node group. After that to assign the cog in the model.
  • create an initial velocity in the given model from option boundary condition apply the value 35mph is convert to the 15.65mm/ms the set timestep 80ms.
  • After creating and set all the parameters as per requirements then check the sectional force on the cross member of the model using section option, this one was creating a new section in the member.
  • Local coordinates were created in each section created by using frame option. This cross-section is required to create an output block so, the resultant velocity of them can be obtained.
  • Check the intrusion and assign nodes driver seat region, B pillar section, and fuel tank region.

REPORT:

The intrusions of Side Crash:

The intrusion at the fuel tank:

The intrusion at fuel tank shows change the node distance b/w left side and right side after the impact. In that distance before impact 1314.82 mm then after the impact it distance is 500mm. So, global intrusion at the fuel tank is 800mm.

The intrusion at B-Pillar:

The intrusion at B pillar is changing the node distance b/w the left side and right side after the impact. In that distance before the impact 1314.395 mm then after the impact it distance is 829.56 mm. So, the global intrusion at the B-pillar is 480mm.

The intrusion at Hinge:

The intrusion at Hinge is change the node distance b/w the left side and right side after the impact. In that distance before the impact 1309.114 mm then after the impact it distance is 1128.652 mm. So, the global intrusion at the hinge is 180mm.

Peak velocity at the inner node of the door:

This graph is shoe the peak velocity at node(338340) at the inner side of the door. in graph shows the resultant velocity. peak velocity initial start from 15.3 mm/ms atoms after that suddenly to increase the velocity above 17.5 mm/ms at 16 ms.

Resultant velocity at Cross-section 1:

Resultant velocity at Cross-section 2:

Energy Error:

The graph can be seen that the maximum increase in internal energy 38000 joules and kinematic energy is 43000 joules after the crash it 50000 joules the Hourglass energy generation is zero because QEPH stiffness method used in this model and there is a slight increase in contact energy.

Sectional Forces on B-Pillar:

The Maximum Displacement acting on the B-pillar cross-section is 380 mm.

The Maximum Resultant Velocity on B-Pillar is 15.6 mm/ms.

Sectional Forces on H-Pillar:

The maximum Displacement acting on the H-pillar cross-section is 1280 mm.

The Maximum Resultant Velocity on H-pillar is 18.6 mm/ms.

Sectional Forces on Fuel Tank:

The Maximum Displacement acting on the Fuel Tank cross-section is 1350 mm.

The Maximum Resultant Velocity on Fuel Tank is 26.3 mm/ms.

RESULTS:

Intrusion at B-Pillar = 1314.395 mm in max & global intrusion is 480mm,

Intrusion at Fuel tank = 1314.82 mm in max & global intrusion is 800mm,

Intrusion at Hinge = 1309.114 mm in max & global intrusion is 180mm,

Peak velocity at node (338340) = 17.5 mm/ms at 16 ms,

Resultant velocity at cross section 1 = 15.6 mm/ms,

Resultant velocity at cross section 2 = 15.8 mm/ms,

cycle = 79900,

Time Step =0.1000E-02,

Internal energy = 0.3775E+05 joules,

Kinectic energy = 0.4584E+05 joules,

Energy error = -3.6 % ,

Mass energy = 0.1009E-01 joules.
