TRANSIENT ANALYSIS ON A PISTON AND CAM MECHANISM
Objective :
To perform transient analysis on piston and cam mechanism to find out the Equivalent Stress, Directional Deformation and Equivalent Elastic Strain with Friction-less contact, Frictional with 0.1 and 0.2 as the frictional contact, compare results, inference the varying results.
Geometry :
The given geometry was imported in transient structural.
Material :
structural steel
Meshing :
Face sizing of 3mm is done for the faces where we need to find the required results.
Contacts :
There are two contacts created between cam follower, barrel cam and barrel.
1. Cam follower and barrel cam
2. cam follower and barrel
Joint :
1.revoluted joint :
body to ground revoluted joint is created to the cam follower shaft.
2. Translational joint :
Translational joint is created between barrel ad piston.
Fixed support :
The barrel was fixed.
Case 1 : Frictionless contact
Equivalent stress :
Equivalent elastic strain :
Directional deformation :
Case 2 : Friction with 0.1 contact
Equivalent stress :
Equivalent elastic strain :
Directional deformation :
Case 3 : Friction with 0.2 contact
Equivalent stress :
Equivalent elastic strain :
Directional deformation :
Comparision of results :
- By comparing the results there is slight difference in equivalent starin and directional deformation.
- By comparing the results without friction maximum equivalent stress is 3018.3 Mpa but when the frictional value is 0.2 the maximum equivalent stress is 3514 Mpa.
- From this, when the frictional value increases the equivalent stress also increase.
