Project

Suspension Design Optimization

Aim:

To select springs and anti-roll bars for a 4WD sedan with a McPherson strut suspension in the front and a multilink setup in the rear and to set up swing arm geometry to meet targets for ride frequency, roll gradient and pitch gradient within the given constraints.

Inputs and targets:

Inorder to optimise the suspension system we need some vehicle level targets and constraints.

Assumptions:

Roll bar is solid, inner diameter=0

Front Roll Center Height : 0.497 inches

Rear Roll Center Height : 0.896 inches

5% higher load transfer in the front to get understeer

Swing Arm horizontal distance= 70-120 inches
