Project

SURFACE WRAPPING OF POWER TRAIN COMPONENTS BY USING ANSA

Objective:-

perform individual surface wraps for the three separate parts with wrap size for the engine as 8 mm and for the other two parts as 5 mm, upon creating the surface wrap delete the geometries and compress the file.

Procedure:-

1.Engine:-

  • We import engine model from the file to ANSA page as shown in the below figure
  • As we absorve in the above model there is a lot of unwanted surfaces are present and we cleared them by deleting all unwanted surfaces by using delete tool.
  • In the above picture we cleared all the unwanted surfaces now we move on to the mesh tool for wrap the element.
  • Before doing that we close all the open surfaces in the model because when we apply the wrap on the model before closing the open surfaces it will create skewness on the model so we do first close all the open surfaces.
  • First we release the cons using release tool in the cons option and than we select the model by dragging and select all and than click the middle mouse button to release the cons. After that closing all the open faces by using fill hole tool in the cons option.
  • Now we cleared all the errors.
  • Now we carry out the wraping the model.
  • In the mesh mode there is one option is there i,e wrap under the element option when we go there under the wrap there is two option i,e variable length and constant length.Variable length is used when we required different length for different element and constant length is mentained same length at all surfaces.
  • Below figure shows after fill hole was done
  • Below figure shows after wrap was done

2.Transimission :-

  • We import trnsimission model from the file to ANSA page as shown in the below figure
  • As we absorve in the above model there is a lot of unwanted surfaces are present and we cleared them by deleting all unwanted surfaces by using delete tool.

3.Gear Box:-

  • We import Gear Box model from the file to ANSA page as shown in the below figure
  • As we absorve in the above model there is a lot of unwanted surfaces are present and we cleared them by deleting all unwanted surfaces by using delete tool.

  • Below figure shows after wrap was done
  • After compeleting all the three models wrapping next it was merged.
  • Under the file option there is a option called merge using that merged all the three models as below.
  • After merging the three models those were assigned for the saperate PIDs to make the work easier.
  • After merging the three models are really not interconnected they were just places beside in order interconnect them deleted the side faces likewise shown below.
  • For creating a compelete volume seleted the intermediated surfaces and created a complete colume for all the three models.
  • Under the elements used the delete option and the future angle of 10 degree was used to make the delete soon.
  • Below shows the images of the volume created of all the three models.
  • Using the release and paste option released the faces and deleted the faces and patched.
  • Surface Wrapping:-

The surface wrapper is suitable for FEA, CFD, crash, or any other type of analysis for which a high quality triangulated surfaces is a necessary prerequisite for producing a simulation ready mesh. As the examples below demonstrate, surface wrapping technology is being employed to improve the CAE process of industry giants, such as the Mercedes Benz car Group and as way of making simulation a viable part of the product development process in smaller companies that are relatively new to CAE.

  • How does the Surface Wrapper Work?

From a user’s point of view, surface wrapping is an entirely automatic process. Using a simple GUI, the user first imports the geometry, sets a representative base-size (that determines the level of feature resolution in the final surface), and hits the surface wrap button. The surface wrapper is guaranteed to return a closed manifold surface.

  • How long does it take?

The exact time to perform a wrap depends on how complex the geometry is, what level of surface refinement is required and how much computing power is available. A complicated structure such as an offshore oil platform or automotive under hood can usually be wrapped within an hour in most cases surface wrapping takes just a few minutes using a simple desktop PC.

Conclusion:-

Surface wrap was created for all the three components, merged them and made a single volume.
