Sunseeker's Predator 74 Yatch

Sunseeker’s Predator 74 Yatch

Designed By,

Gabileish S

AIM&OBJECTIVE:

The objective is to design and assemble the various parts using solid works.

INTRODUCTION:

  • The yatch assembly comprises part modeling as well as surface modeling.
  • The surface modeling is up to 90% in the yatch assembly.
  • To model the sunseeker predator yatch by using surface modeling.

PARTS TO BE MODLLED:

  • Garage door.
  • Super structure.
  • Front seat.
  • Middle seat.
  • Rear seat.
  • Radar mast.

ABOUT FEATURE COMMAND:

Features:

  • Features are the individual shapes that, when combined, make up the part. You can also add some types of features to assemblies.
  • Features include multi body part capability. You can include separate extrude, revolve, sweep features within the same part document.

Features Toolbar:

  • Features toolbar provides tools for creating model features. The set of features icons is very extensive so not all of them are included on the default Features toolbar
  • Use the layout Tools toolbar to create and edit a layout-based assembly design. The macro toolbar controls macro recording , playback, and editing

Creating a Chamfer and Fillet Feature:

  • The chamfer tool creates a beveled feature on the selected edges, faces, or a vertex.
  • Fillet is feature tool which is used to rounding of interior or external face along with one or more edges of your design.

Cuts:

A cut is a feature used to remove the excess material in the part or an assembly.

Projected Curves:

A projected curve is typically used either in sweeps and lofts as or guide curve. There are two types of projected curves.

Sketch on sketch: Use two sketches to make single curve.

Sketch on surface: Use a sketch point on a surface.

Split Line:

The split line tool is used to project an entity (sketch, solid, surface, plane, or surface Spline) onto other surface or curved/planar faces. You are also able to split faces on multiple bodies with one command.

Creating Curves through Reference Points:

Creates a curve through points located on one or more planes.

Composite Curve:

From a combination of curves, sketch geometry and model edges.

Deforms:

Use the deform feature to alter shapes of complex surface or solid models, either in a local area or globally, without concern for the sketches or feature constraints used to create the models. Deform provides a simple way to change virtually any model, whether organic or mechanical, and is useful when creating design concepts.

Dome:

Select one or more planar or non planar faces, you can apply domes to faces whose centroid lies outside the face. This allows you to apply dome to irregularly shaped contours.

Elliptical Dome:

Specify an elliptical dome for cylindrical or conical models. An elliptical dome’s shape is a half ellipsoid with a height equal to one of the ellipsoid radii.

Extrudes:

We can extrude the boundary edges of a face of a solid body in a customized direction. You can also use Instant3D and Rapid Sketch to create extrudes.

Library Features:

Library feature is a frequently used feature, or a combination of features, that you can create once and then save in a library for future use. Most feature types are supported, some with certain limitations.

Patterns &Mirroring:

We can use the pattern or the mirror feature to pattern or mirror multiple bodies within the same document. When pattern or mirror features split single bodies into multiple bodies, you can select which bodies to keep and specify which configurations to keep up to date.

Revolves:

Revolves add or remove material by revolving one or more profiles around a centerline. You can create revolve boss/bases, revolve cuts or revolve surfaces. The revolve feature may be solid thin feature or a surface

Shells:

The shell tool hallows out a part, leaves open the faces you select, and creates thin walled features on the remaining faces.

Sweeps:

Sweep creates a base, boss, or surface, by moving a profile along a path. A sweep can be simple or complex.

Appearance:

You can apply appearances to features, face, bodies, and parts. To apply an appearance, simply select the desired appearance from the Appearance Resource list, hold down the mouse button and drag it to the face, feature or part you want to assign the appearance.

Surfaces:

Surfaces are a type of geometry that can be used to create solid features. Surface tools are available on the surface toolbar.

Offset:

The offset command is used to create the similar sketch in some distance required.

Trim:

The trim command can be used to remove the excess or extra portion in the sketch trim command basically works based on same reference point, edge etc.

Dynamic Mirror:

This tool allows the user to mirror a sketch about a line while the user is creating the sketch. Depending on the design intent this toll can save immense amount of time.

Linear Pattern:

The linear pattern is used to create a similar model either in linear xyz direction. The pattern is created based on reference edge, face etc.

Circular Pattern:

The circular pattern is used to create a similar solid surface in a circular direction up to user defined instances.

Delete Face:

This command is used to delete unnecessary faces and this feature comes with some options like delete face, delete patch , delete and fill.

Propeller:

A propeller is a rotating fan like structure which is used to propel the ship by using the power generated and transmitted by the main engine if the ship. The transmitted power is converted from rotational motion to generate a thrust which imparts momentum to the water, resulting in a force that acts on the ship and pushes it forward.

Commands used in propeller:

  • Sketch
  • Revolve
  • Lofted base
  • Cut Extrude
  • Fillet
  • Circular Pattern

Radar:

A marine RADAR use a ranging and detecting system that picks up signals from objects several hundred feet or several miles away from your boat. The Radar system sends out the signal in the form of a sound wave. This pulse is sent out from the Radar dish on the top of your boat.

Commands used in Radar:

  • Sketch
  • Boss Extrude
  • Fillet
  • Cut Extrude
  • Sketch pattern
  • Mirror
  • Split line

Hull:

A Hull is a watertight body of a ship or boat. The hull may open at the top or it may be fully or partially covered with a deck. A top of the deck may be a deckhouse and other superstructure, such as funnel, derrick or mast. The line where the hull meets the water surface is called water line.

Commands used in Hull:

  • Sketch
  • Project curve
  • Loft surface
  • Fill surface
  • Surface Extrude
  • Surface trim
  • Surface Extend

Super structure:

A super structure is a extended construction of any building or platform that rises above the rest of the building or platform in a distant manner. Thus super structure means to add a construction to an already existing structure. In ships this is the name given to the part of the ship that emerges from the deck.

Commands used in Superstructure:

  • Sketch
  • Surface extrude

Assembly of the Yatch:

  • All the modeled parts are inserted one by one in the assembly
  • Since the parts are created based on the reference with the deck surface the parts are automatically fixed above the deck surface while the part being inserted in the assembly.
  • So to start the assembly of the yatch the first part being inserted will be the hull which has the deck surface.
  • The propeller, radar, garage door is not fully fixed since they have to rotate and move respectively.
  • So for these parts the mates are manually defined to allow them to move in particular axis.
