Structural Analysis on HOOD

Objective:

Done a topological error and mesh on the hood for structural Analysis.

Procedure:

Structural anaysis and CFD analysis have a different way of meshing effect. Here we did a hood for the strcutural analysis.

Hood:

It consist of two parts inner panel and the outer panel. For doing a mesh, we are going to extract the mid surface from the panel.

The above figure shows the outer part of the hood.

The above part is inner panel.

For creating a mesh, it is better to do mesh on the ,midplane than the surface which helps to reduce the computational time.

Before we are going to extract first do the geometrical error check. Ensure that there is no error in the geometry.

The above figure shows the midsurface extract of the inner panel.

A- used to show the geometry and the fea part of the model.

B- indicate the mesh. Here i am using the best mesh under the mesh generation.

C- This icon Bounds used to identify the single and triple shared element on the mesh region.

D- Tranform and compress icon which used to modify the parts.

The above figure shows the mesh is genrated on the mid plane for the inner panel.

Here we use Automatic midsurface extract method.

Midsurface- skin--- this option used in the sheet metal cases to create the midsurface and ensure that it have the common thickness.

Mesh Check:

The above figure shows the errorless mesh. Since the geometry is symmetry, here we use the symmetry option to create the midsurface and the meshes. The green and red indicate the symmetry faces of the hood.

Since it is enough to do simulation in inner panel of the hood on the midsurface. But hemming region play a vital role in the front panel of the hood which helps to increase the stability and the stiffness. so it is neccesary toa cover both the outer and inner panel and also hemming area where midsurface must be extracted.

First create a midsurface on the outer panel and analyse the hemming region.

The above figure shows the hemming region of the hood. We have to extract the midsurface and do the mesh on the hemming surfaces.

The red area cover the inner panel. That area is called the hemming region. The above figure shows the midsurface of the hood where hemming also included.

Finally the mesh is done on the hood of the midsurface. Here best mesh is generated and it modified depends upon the given quality criteria.

Conclusion:

For structural analysis thickness less the 7mm cases, where midsurface is enough to capture the overall effect. So it is not necessary to develop the volume in the structural analysis if thickness is less the 7 mm. Midsurface mesh give less computational time and also gives the result apprpoximately equal to the volume mesh.
